if its on 4x4 and your trying to get over 500 you will end up breaking one thing after another

i personally would go for a good responsive 450 and use the turbo to its full potenial theres no point going too big unless you are using it to the max.

The problem with maxing the T38 out then switching later is the risk of loosing my car for months again when it goes in for the remap, this is one of the other reasons i was thinking of getting it all done at once if i can afford it. But on the other hand i would like to see how much power Alan can get out of a T38

i dont think you would lose it for months surely, change of turbo and a remap isnt a big job+the car will be getting used with the t38 untill the day it has to go in.
i think you need to ask yourself what you want from the car,is it a high number? have you driven or been in a 500bhp cos?
i thought 400-450 was a great usable power,500+ was imo a fooking scream but a bit too far for the road(i was rwd mind, but i thought the same with kevs escort at this power).

if you realy catch the bug like euan then the numbers start to matter and you will be using the escort for brunters and the like,,kevs escort with the 7speed box and probably 600 odd bhp was the fastest thing i have ever been in and although KRAZY fun i wouldnt like the bill for broken parts.

in short t38

Good point Dov my car was close to 400 before after the msd remap but i would like to use it for crail with it just being along the road and also would like to see what it could do at brunters if i ever got the chance to go.
Remember Kev passing me in my old scooby when we were all having a bit of a play with a bike and his car was crazy fast.
Think its just cause the car has been off the road for a year now im not sure if it would be better just to get it to the spec i want before i bring it back out, and about the only other thing i had thought about was a T4.
But been thinking about it and as you say 450 is realy more than enough for a road car so will be sticking with the T38 for now and see how that goes.

if its been off the road a year neil i think personally i would just go t38 and actualy use the car, nothing worse than forking out thousands on a car that you never get to drive! it would be sods law to bring it out on a t4 and something on the transmision to brake within a month.

use it this summer coming on the t38 then put the t4 on over winter next year

Now that does sound like a plan have tried to upgrade everything ready for the power but as you know with 4x4 its never that simple.

Too much sense on this thread - T60 series turbo needed lol!

I would go with the 38 for next year and get the rest of the car perfect during the year in the sort of anal way mike R tries to do with his. Eg suspension/geometry/brakes and balance/ clutch/ temperature management/weight distribution etc. I dont mean just buying rose joints, modded beams and coil overs because people say they are best but actually spending the time and deciding whats really best for a package that is maintainable at the time intervals and cost that let you enjoy the car. Get the package spot on then decide if you want the grief of more power/breakages.
You also might then be able to use the T4 more than just in a straight line after you get it sorted.

Totally agree.

and the car is hardly going be shy even on the UT T38 anyway.

Martin has done the same to me, i wanted a specific power figure and Martin has talked me round to starting on a particular turbo and if and when im happy with the rest of the car then step up the turbo choice and have it remapped - thats if i feel the need to alter it.

too many people stick big power into a std chassis bar a set of konis ... I have spent 3 times as much on the transmission and chassis as I have my engine, as I want the car to handle well and the rest of the car to hold together. How many people run 400 BHP on a std box? ... Pays to buy a decent box first time IMHO.. Also, I would HIGHLY reccomend one of Martins hydrualic clutch kits, transforms the car and makes it so much nicer to drive, and apparently near enough doubles clutch life as well

RWD_cossie_wil very good point my car will have coilovers, fully polybushed, thickwall plated front diff, mullit spec rear diff, mullit box ,adjustable tca's and might have compression struts aswell. Will also be getting a rear beam soon aswell , also talked to Andyg about a hyd clutch conversion.

If you go for TCA's and compression struts, you don't need any poly bushes... I bought a set before I did it all, and have them sat there new in the boxes .... But over 400BHP and a decent box and a thickwall front diff are the minimum you should plan on, as it is just not worth the risk and hassle of smashing std parts..

I am upgrading the rear diff to a 2wd item with the 108mm flanges as well, will all go in when the Danny B beam arrives ... Can't tell you how good the hydrualic clutch is though, both me and a mate are running twin plate clutches with a Reyland centrepush conversion, it is just like a std clutch ..

Im going over on Monday Wul to see Alan so hopefully have an update then. Stu has said on another post he has mapped a few T38's with a 44psi spike, which should be fun but think somewhere in the 30's will do me.
