Default T38 turbo's

Right what makes a T38 turbo...........

As in compressor housing, exhaust trim etc etc......

Why do companies T38's differ so much.

Externally they share the outline to a T34, it is internally that they are different.

Obviously those people with engine dynos can experiment until they get the perfect match of exhaust / compressor trim . Other companies can only supply what they "think" is going to work...

UT T38 looks exactly as a T34 but with enlarged internals.

TT T38 is the larger variant, would be no good on a standard head or with small head porting as would suffer surging issues.

both good turbo's if matched ideally for there aplication.

mine was a UT T38, span up and came on boost almost identically to the T34.63 i had previously but could deliver more boost if required and had no problems holding further up the rev range.

Had mine hitting 36psi by 3400rpm (ish) and had no problems holding that 32psi almost to the redline

HTH a little

My turbo technics T38 worked fine on a mildly ported head with std cams , no surging as it was mapped correctly and made 400 bhp all day long..

The Turbo Technics is around Ł700 +vat.

No reason why not mate, set of black siemens would be a lot more efficient than greys but 400 bhp is the figure for that sort of setup.

You might as well use a new, highly efficeint injector than a 20 year old grey fuel tap.

COMEDY DAN, nicely done then mate, im only going by my own personal experiences - what friends have encountered and what we have gathered from several tuners who supply the T38's along the way.

Jase, from personal experience - with the UT T38 & Greys etc you should stil hit 400bhp on the standard head, or atleast not be to far off of it.

(just my opionion!)

You tinker!

With regards to these siemens injectors, would it be easier to see what my mapper (whoever i choose) recommends?

Maybe not neccesarily the siemens injectors, but any high impedance injector eems to be the way forward at the mo instead of the greys.

dependant on your chosen tuners choice

Not sure why you say that Dan TBH. On Stu's chip i get 14.6:1 AFR off boost cruising, still on a L6 which obviously hasnt got closed loop fuelling.

Or going via Harvey / ahmed! Tell harvey to pull finger with the P8 mapping!

Also been speaking to someone regarding a well mapped T34 -light blue's set up. As it would be a was to run a T38 Greys half cocked!!

Only saying, if there is the option of either or, then go for the modern injectors matey instead, I do know cars on greys that are fine also, its just personal opinion I guess.

Ive just paid Ł600 for a re-con, ut t38 im going to run light blues, 7:5.1, standard cams, standard head, mapped at grove by amhed, and have been told it will be in the ball park of 400bhp, when its done i will post figures.... i wanted to buy bigger injectors but was told it would be a nicer car to drive with l/blues, untill i get head work done

A standard head with standard cams will be a problem with surge i think. After my t34 expires i will look at getting a t38. Ive got standard head and bd14 inlet

Deffo a grey area here then........

Wondering if going down the T34 route with light blues would be a better option.

I know my engines getting on a bit but havent got the bucks for a nice Harvey built lump & cant see the point of replacing my engine till it goes tits up!

But i do need a little more power..............

Talk about a Catch 22!!

Franco from talking to Kelv who ran both tt and ut t38, looks like the Ut is the one to go for if you dont have head mods.
