BMW 330 D or 330 CI
Anyone owned one etc ? Thoughts ? Usual stuff ?
Have 16 k on a left hand drive for my move. Was going to go M3 but dont want a high miler or dog etc. So thought the above or a nice 330 CI sport etc. The 330 D after a remap seems to have plenty of grunt.
Dont want to be lending so will be happy with what i get till i can afford an M3 straight up.
Got a left hand drive company sourcing me a left hooker 330 CI at the moment and need opinions on the diesel, as may ring back and give them some more options.

Don't know why i never thought of it. Sales guy never suggested one, just remember an awseome lap in one at the ring a few years back. Was remapped though but a very good drive. One of Mike Rainbirds mates i think, Chip you may remember him ?

I have a 320cd sport... was looking for a 330d sport, but saw the coupe, it was the right price, god damn gorgeous so got that instead.... but I really wish I was loaded and could have spent a few more thousands to get miself a 330cd sport.... rapid, highly tuneable.... and economic... what more could a person want??

330D gets my vote too as an all rounder. especially as diesel is cheaper than petrol over there isnt it?

I shall give him the option as a 330 d coupe then. Though unsure on the price of them and if in my price range. New option and need to do some research.

TIff has a 330d sport 4 door.. was awesome very very impressive bit of kit.
I've been looking but cant justify the 10k+ a bit price tag for something with sensible mileage.

Driven tens of each model from each year...
The 330Ci is a fabulous engine and one of my nasp favourites. It loves to be pushed hard but it feels to be stroked compared to its smaller brethen as it seems to lack in the midrange compared to say the 2.5s. If you google its specs you may find it is... Im No BMW expert unfortunately, thats just how it feels to me.
330D. Doesnt love the revs... its a diseasel. However, its better at EVERYTHING else, and a remap can give you an other 60bhp and 80ftlb. lol

I've been thinking the same, was set on the 330cd, but after announcing this to my flatmate, I've had nothing but stick about it having a truck engine ever since. So I've started to consider the 330ci Sport, seems to be more about, and cheaper than the diesels too (looking at ~2002 era), so it'd be the old derv engine anyway.
Anyone got much to say to add to Stu's comments on the petrol version?
Not owned a large capacity petrol before, but do like my mates 350z, so if its half as good as that then it'd be great, can't beat the sound

330D was on Top Gear, took a hammering for 24 hours, and was healthy at the end.
As said remapped will live with the petrol, but won't need to rev the nuts off it like the petrol to overtake quickly.
Better every day performance, getting on for twice the mpg.
Is a 6 pot too, so smooth, and a nice sound to it.
As much as I like my M3, power delivery is linear, and to impress needs to be heading for 8000 revs.
Diesel will throw you back in your seat at 2000 revs in every gear, much more fun.
Also, how often are you flat out in every gear?
Not often me, yet always overtaking, which is where the 330D would be better, and more effortless.
Bit of a no brainer IMHO.

A friend of mine is fluent in German and suggested we go over to Germany and do it ourselves. Anyone any thoughts on this ? The company what will source me the car put it onto British plates, offer warranty and tax it for the year. On the other hand the car is going to Spain, so i could just drive from Germany to Spain on german plates.
Anyone any experience in this ?

re-mapped 330d live with a 330i, it will kill it
280bhp vs 230bhp let alone the torque.

330d all day long imo. better all round.
Would love a 330cd but bit out of my price range really, struggle to get one under 17-18k with sensible mileage.
330i you can get a couple and prob better spec for less money though! depends what you want. not sure on mainland Europe, maybe dervs are cheaper than petrol counterparts?

I had a 330CI Sport Convertible, and it was awesome. It was thirsty, but it was quick and very torquey.
I would not go back to one though, now I have the EscCos!

I just got an 03 plate 330D last week, and its absoloutley unbeleivably amazingly awesome!!! (I do like it )
I do 300 miles a week for work, i used to run a 520 petrol, and so far in my first week owning it, the diesel has SAVED me £20 in fuel!!!
Up to this morning it had AVERAGED 47.2mpg, and thats including a bit of kicking its head in to show my mates what it can do!
Get one, you wont be dissapointed

I have expressed an interest in the car posted above and looking to pay the 10% deposit later today.
The car
The sales guy said it will be in the country in 8 weeks.

Reason being as i am moving myself over to Spain on feb the 16th for good. Put off by buying a spannish one as most seem not upto standard dented etc. So buy from germany and swap the plates.
I like the cream but all personal choice i guess.

Don't know why i never thought of it. Sales guy never suggested one, just remember an awseome lap in one at the ring a few years back. Was remapped though but a very good drive. One of Mike Rainbirds mates i think, Chip you may remember him ?
I remember the fella and the car, but I cant remember which diesel derivative it was.
