Cossie engine in Impreza ?
Has anybody ever fitted (or heard from) a Cossie engine in an Impreza ?
If so, how hard was it ?
Any pics/info/links are welcome.
Just curious if it'll work...

Nope....this is the easy part...the engine will give more trouble...
Sump will hit the subframe, engine mounts hit the steering, etc...
But nothing that can't be fixed.
Once it's in, then the fun of fitting the exhaust, GT30, mapping, etc will begin

The subaru is a well thought out car as said, the engine in its design has a low centre of gravity to improve the way it handles and after having a few can say they did a good job. The cossie on the other hand was not well thought out, just bang a semi decent motor in a barge and see what happens, mix the two and i think you can figure the outcome.
Just so you dont think im bias, i have a nice stage 3 sapph which wouldnt touch a standard impreza uk model round the nurburgring.

Give the guy a break, if he wanted to put a micra engine in then thats his choice thankfully he went for a cossie engine which has steel pistons not chocolate ones

fair play for going for another idea,,,,, i LOVE engine conversions but you seem to have taken a half decent car needing some mods to make a pukka car into a half decent car that no longer handles as well as it now less reliable but will cost more to maintain
but each to there own

Fair play for trying something different. Yes as others have said, you may not get the handling of a factory impreza but it's a good challenge if nothing else to fit it and get it running.
Make sure you put some pics up of it finished.

screw the other comments this is the best idea ever.
sick of seing the same chavd impreza over and over.
infact im quite sick of impreza's there common and bore me, but this might convert me
a family cossi? a rwd impreza? something different?
theres loads of ways you can look at this build but i think its ace
so what if its gonna be a big cost for little gain, it aint like everyone on here has stuck to there budgets

Good work mate. Be good to see it finished and running, dont listen to the "whats the point in this" comments. If you want to do something different - do it!
If it was a well known tuner posting this little project it would have had alot more "great project, love the idea" comments and it would be on page 10 by now.
Lets see more updates

I think it's the best off both worlds
A good car, with a better/stronger engine and gearbox/dif then it came from the factory......and it's different.
Love it mate Let's hope the car is finished before the summer.

At this time it's just looking if it'll all fit, permanent fitment will be the next thing.

It will be a ball ache length wise.
Scooby engines are about half the length of a YB and even then there not tons of room.
Always an idea ive wanted to do for a laugh tho, even if it serves no useful purpose. There been Scooby powered Focus's etc, so why not.
Rear diffs are rather weak tho, RWD converted scoobies always break em pretty easy.

The rear dif that is used is from an 2wd Cossie, not from a Scooby
