i had to buy some hot pants from asda once, i didnt bother asking about sizes i just went to the womens section and started trying them on 
i got some funny looks but not as many as my mate who was in the schoolwear section trying on skirts

oh i forgot the bit about when we then looked for tights and could only find brown and they didnt fit with our schoolgirl look, so we asked at teh counter for black ones, a guy turned up with a case load and was like 
are these for you guys, i was like oh yes

Waist measurements for men are generally the hip measurement for women which is obviously bigger. Remember we don't have the curves of a woman [unless you're AlexF].
