Smell what you like
I had it reading 50mpg over 14 miles of country A roads mainly, work to home, driving as gently as possible, and 6th gear cruising at 30 odd mph.
When I checked obc overead by 3mpg.
As you'll no dount know the let is fantastic off boost, happy to potter along at 1000 revs in any gear, and has a tall 6th gear.
We're talking an average of 40mph here, not 70, wouldn't do that mpg at motorway speeds.
Obviously took a lot of forward planning, and reading the road ahead, so no doubt why I could get a lot more mpg than you

Autocar tested E36 M3 with 286bhp ( manual ) and Evo M3 ( 321bhp )with SMG
Also tested St TDci Mondeo
They test in-gear figures in the gears but I don't think they do 100-120 increment for Mondeo ( maybe M3 ).
Certainly do 80-100 and below increments though

your onboard computer might have been saying 50mpg but you weren't doing it mate.to get to 300hp you either have to up the fuel pressure or fit bigger injectors, both of which will throw your onboard computer out. best i ever got out of my 300hp cav turbo was 400 miles on a full tank.which i get to be about 30mpg on 60 litres?

As I actually said, it did overead, and obviously had upped fuel pressure
Also, it was over 14 miles, not a tankful - couldn't drive like that for long, too tiring.
It did Poole to Oswestry and back on a full tank, getting stuck in a lot of traffic and not hanging about, so 450+ miles.

man if you feather the throttle like a granny and go majorly slow etc you will achieve a decent MPG figure in any normal sized engine/car, unless it running rich.
You will just be overtaken by every other car on the road and it will take months to get anywhere

Carl - driving the same way in the M3 it just about tops 30 mpg...
Still a big engine to fuel no matter what work it's doing I guess.
No one ever believes how good the calibra is on fuel, don't blame them.
But to get those sort of returns is not a nice driving manner, and not sustainable for very long.
But that engine started out with decent power before the turbo was added to them, happily potters along at 1000 revs in 6th at 30mph odd.
The M3 is happy doing that too, but the mpg seems to suffer as opposed to 2000 revs or so.
As an aside, had to tow the calibra through rush hour traffic the other morning, it broke down
Used a golf tdi, foot to floor most the way, averaged 41 mpg I think it was, just takes the piss
Hard to say no to these modern diesels, I'm torn between a 330D and a sapphire cosworth lol

But it wasn't the 330d that blew up and had me crying when I was a lad watching Spender!
Sure like a lot on here the sapphire cosworth has an appeal that can't be too well described, and is hard to resist.

Me too
Diesels are deceptive, last one I drove had half the bhp of mine, but felt 3 times quicker way it kept throwing me back in the seat.
Looking at the speedo you realise you're not really getting anywhere.

Dunno what the crack is there, but he's driving a smart, new, expensive, quality car
Mind you, if I was given 30k (or whatever it is) of car by my old dear, think I'd say I'd bought it myself in all honesty

No not too proud, not proud at all
Just I'm a grown man, bit sad if I can't finance my own wheels.
In fact I keep hinting at them giving me some money to buy a house.
Many are left money in a will, often when they are financially secure, and don't need the money.
Makes sense if you're going to be left money, to have it when you need it, if possible.
A house is a totally different matter, there is no comparison.
Many many peoples only way onto the ladder is their parents lending a helping hand.
Not to mention the fact it appreciates in value, is a roof over your head, gets you out from under their feet etc etc
Anyway, back to M3's... lol
