Default Pinto question.....

2.0 pinto's found in mk2 2000's are the same block as in the cosworth yeah, just hand picked from the bunch so they are the best one?

so could you use a cosworth 205 block to build a pinto engine, just running big carbs ect etc?

would a 205 with a 25mm over bore be ok?

Yup, can use cosworth block as well as crank and rods if you liked with a pinto head.

25mm overbore is a bad big tho

0.25mm would be OK
25mm is almost an inch and might cause a few leaks.

I remember reading about using diesel rods in CCC and it is a whole load of hassel compared to bolting in some cossie ones, if you use the cossie crank you will need to use the cossie flywheel and RWD MT75/T5 or use a custom flywheel.

Nope ! - A "correct" MKII RS2000 uses a 20 designated block

Cosworth are designated 205 or 200

Yep ! But carbs choice is ruled by the spec of engine being built

I run an 8v Pinto based on a 200 block running 94mm Accralite pistons

94mm is maximum size Pinto piston I found available

25mm overbore must be a typo !

my pinto was a normal non 205 block with cosworth crank, rods, pistons and flywheel (machined to pinto dimensions) this was running a .5 overbore and ran 181 bhp with dellorto 48 carbs. and a burton stg 3 head with a emerald stg 4 cam
I say was as most of you will know in 2005 the head of no4 inlet valve decided to fall off!!
the carnage that was left included a cracked block. I've got a mint 205 block but still need a .5 oversize piston to start the rebuild.

pics of the damage

Dont worry we know what you meant

90.80mm is standard bore for a 2.0 ltr Pinto

Rebore upto +1.0mm is normal limit

As mentioned though I use 94mm pistons (+3.2mm) on a 200 block with no problems

Using standard stroke crank and standard length con-rods my engine size is 2135cc
