long studding is driling the block to accept studs so that you put the head on and tigheen up nuts
the benifits are that there is mre secure location and you can put different threads on the top so that you can exert more pressure with a finer thread for less torque on the nuts

wire ringing is basicly amchining a rigroove into the block and filling it with a ring of wire to further help the fire ring in the head gasket in doing its job of preventing leakage from the cylinders

long studding is when you use studs that are longer
wire ringing is when you fit rings of wire

chipper you are a clever guy with lots of useful information to impart and mostly you try to help. this fella however is a new member and its just like entering a room of people you dont know groping around for someone to talk to.

he's asked sensible questions on two threads and got no help at all. hardly the welcoming approach. i think this forum has evolved into a talk shop for those 'charmed ones' and the result of this is that many people who would happily offer free and useful advice stay away.

L8 ECU thanks a lot thats great

by drilling holes in the block, does this make it weaker and more prone to failure? and why is long studding better to do rather than not doing it (if it is better?)

dojj i sort of understand your reply and thanks for it, the wire rung bit i get now, just still slightly confused on the long stud explanation

is the long studding for use with a certain spec of engine? (maybe a high spec?)

or is it a modification for the better on a normal engine? and what is the main reason for having it done

i know i sound stupid on this subject, mainly because i am dont really know the full lowdown on cossy engines so trying the best i can to understand

If I didnt KNOW you were going to get a sensible answer from other people I wouldnt have put that reply anyway, if it was something not many people know the answer to I would have spent the time to put a proper reply.
