the big difference is they come with insurance, where as your own car doesn't.

oh and if you've never been before make sure you watch plenty of vids (you tube) and play it alot on a xbox/Playstation to get a feel for which why it goes , you'll get far more out of your trip if you do (just don't think that means you know the track though

and finaly make sure you read the rules - ben lovejoys site is a great place to start.

it is awsome, can't wait to go back

They come with insurance that covers the track but with a (IIRC) 1500 euro excess, and they dont cover the car you are driving at all.

Thats LESS insurance than a standard UK policy which fully covers the track and may or may not cover your car.

The 10 Grand I was referring to it costing you are the bits that arent covered, like the excess on the car, the value of the car, and lost rental income from the car, all of which they charge you.

are you sure it covers the track? thats the first i've heard of it...

doesn't the rentaracecar insurance also cover third parties? my main concern would be wiping out someones brandnew 997 GT3

Yes normal UK car insurance on a green card covers the ring (not sure what track you are referring to though as the ring is a road not a track).

I have personally claimed on a normal UK policy for an accident there so I know this to be the case from first hand experience of it.

Normal UK road insurance also covers that GT3 you mention.

Mike rainbird has some good advice 'Nordschleife, there's only two barriers to worry about - the ones on the left and the ones on the right'

ah right, i thought most insurance co's specifically excluded the ring (lol yeah the same one) and unrestricted toll roads, to be fair i've never checked my small print, i jsut worked on the assumption i wasn't insuranced every time i've been... LOL do you think they'll pay my bill for my recovery from the gravel trap at Brunchen

The ring isnt an unrestricted toll road.

And those clauses in your policy tend to mean nothing in a german court of law with regards to third party payouts.
I spoke to the officials at the ring and they said they have NEVER failed to recover costs from a UK insurance company.

Paying out on your own car though, is something they can pretty easily get out of it would appear, although in my case they did make a payout for the car too.
