This evening we done a few nitrous runs with the wideband (now the new probe showed up)

On nitrous we were having difficulties getting a reading at times as it was so rich it would foul up the sensor, other times it would simply lose its signal all together.

We tried some off gas runs and although it was a nice 12 all the way through the rev range it would still occasionally fail and lose its singal.

Our theory is that maybe as the car is such a hard ride and the roads we were using weren't the smoothest was that vibrations were causing the incorrect or at times no reading.

Has anyone else experienced this or is it more likely to be a wiring issue

I think it would be more of a wiring issue. It must have been REALLY rich for it to not read.

9's mate on nitrous, nice to know as we ran a 12.5 1/4 mile with it that rich

After a few seconds the sensor started to read again, occasionally though it would just lose signal all together

Ah, thats a pain in the arse.

It should hopefully be ok on the strip as its smooth.

We got enough info to know its far too rich, it would just be nice to do a full run into 5th and see what the fuelling is then

Jay- Is it the lambda at fault or the actual box that doesn't like vibration ?

It seems fine if your mapping any car where you have the laptop and LM1 on your lap in the nova we have it all sitting on the floor

from the issue's ive with them its been the controller but the sensors are real cheap to replace just go to a motorfactor and ask for a golf/passat audi 5 wire ls42 wideband sensor there normally around £35 and try and support the diplay/controller in some fashion lol floors not a good idea for it see if that sorts the issue out if not itll be the controller like i say the equipment isnt that stable in the best conditions let alone a couple of nutters in a beefed up nova

Where you getting an error code?

The bosch sensor cannot reliably read mixtures richer than about 9:1 so the LM1 puts up an error message rather than showing an un reliable/guessed result like most other controllers.

If you are getting normal AFRs off nitrous, so proving the controller is working i would assume that you are running very rich under gass and change the jets accordingly.

If you use the logging facility on the LM1 for AFR and TPS you should be able to confirm that the error occurs exactly when you go WOT and the gas is activated.

Thanks for the info

It doesn't just do it on gas, it is clearly rough roads when the problem happens.

Were datalogging rpm against afr only.

We'll make a holder up for the laptop and LM1 and see what happens from there.

LOL @ "couple of nutters in a beefed up nova"

I cable tied my mobile to the last bit of metal left in the car last night

It rests nicely ontop of the fuse box

The car needs heaters though

Well tbh I was shitting myself so much last night that I was quite warm

Just the fact there is holes in everywhere doesn't help keep that heat in !

We've done some more testing this evening and we keep having the same fault occur with the LM1.

We lose all signals and the screen displays sensor timing error.

Has anyone experienced this ?

Were going to fit a boss into the exhaust tomorrow and try it with the lambda away from fresh air etc..

One thing we did find out tonight is that we need more traction

Nice technical explanation there Jay

Its got a brand new VAG sensor installed, we will try a mates sensor tomorrow and if that doesn't sort it then we'll move the sensor into the exhaust.

Weirdly it does this off gas now within 30 seconds of normal driving, if you go fuill throttle the fault occurs instantly

The probe was calibrated as per the insructions

Not sure tbh about the E9 code

If alternator/battery voltage is low, the display stops showing AFR and will keep flashing up "E 9" until good supply voltage is restored.

Voltage is fine as we were datalogging that, well we were until it froze.

Although the jetting now seems perfect its no good having a wideband that wont work in this car.

My mates going to fit it back into his GTR and check it still works on that ok as it did work fine on his, just not the nova.
