As mentioned, just buy some external storage. If you just want it to store music and pics on, why bother shelling out for a new laptop?

if all your into is music your better off getting a mac book as the editing suites and features available for sound are far superior to anything available for the Windows platform

Would prefer 2gb memory if running Vista personally.

http://www1.euro.dell.com/content/pr...hs1&l=en&s=dhs

Is another alternative. The 2gb offer has a long delivery time though

it aint a must.

but when running Xp ect

and you are surfing web, downloading a music/movie while you are watching a movie

your computer would go slow=)

but 1 gb extra ram aint that expensive.

but for your laptop

i would go for a core 2 duo

Then the cpu T5xxx series and up

if you play games you dont want when it stands 256mb shared video memory, then its shared with the comp ram... that sucks

I dont know all of the UK sites
But PM

On the Dell link posted above click on that and the "Inspiron 1501" will do you fine.

If it were me I would go for the Dell.

Work with them everyday, I have a Latitude D520 and runs everything hunky dory.

The Inspiron 1501 would do you a treat.

I run a Fujitsu as my own (Dell is works one) with 2gb/DVDRW/80gb HD and that cost 700 2 year ago.

Does everything I want it to do very easily, and all I do with it is what you want to do Pete. The disk space is a bit restrictive, but thats why I have a 160gb external HDD.

Agree on the 2gb RAM for Vista totally, 1gb is bare minimum and still can slow down sometimes

I'm running ultimate on 1gb (with all the media centre stuff turned off when not using it) and mine struggles with 1gb sometimes

Unless your running an OS that does not have high resource usage such as Linux, the reality is that when loaded up with music an vids a Windows laptop for £450 is going to be SLOW!!!!!!!

A £450 laptop is a general middle of the road cheap mass produced laptop, in the same manner that a middle of the road cheap mass produced car is never going to have stunning performance the same could be said for a laptop specially if its running Vista bloatware
