Default CCTV @ home, please advise, just had the cops round

Guys,

I'd appreciate some advice about the cctv cameras on the house, I've just rushed home from work as two guys have just approached my girlfriend at the side of my house, come through our gate and as jenny was inside and locked the door by this point they tried to open the door etc etc... |They were sat in a car outside and were watching her from the road as she was having a cigarette. She got a bit of a description, Police have been round and obviously can't do much, but I want to safeguard the house. I work long hours and want to feel a bit better about leaving her at home alone, I've alerted all the negihbours but want cctv fixed up. I've looked at Argos to get a brief idea as I don't really know where to look, but they don't really look all that. The most expensive one they have can't see at night etc.

What have you guys got and where did you buy from? I'm interested in wireless set ups if poss, and one that can see at night. Or at least links in with a PIR floodlight or something...

Any help appreciated.

Them flood lights with sensors on them are good, get a couple of those, one on the front one on the back or something.

Aswell as the camera's i mean, if they return they wont know what hits them when a big fck off light blinds them and then they realise they have to say cheese for the camera aswell

what you looking at spending. at home i have 4 channel dvr (records to hard drive so no tape changing or crap pictures that are useless) cost Ł200. Then we run 3 cameras only budgets from ebay approx Ł60 each they come with infrared lights about 50 per cam. This set up gives good pictures in dark unlike all diy crap.

also the general rule is for identifying people you need to cover half the screen with there face. So you simply choose the camera with the size of lens to suit. We have 2 to give general coveredage of drive and garage. and one that gives close ups of faces.

No too concerned about price mate, I just want something that is decent, wireless if poss, and will record on a hard drive like yours. So what you have would be worth a look at. Thanks mate.

this is the cameras i use. Got them slightly cheaper than that tho. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/25m-NIGHT-VISI...QQcmdZViewItem

the good thing is you can adjust the infrared lights, the fixed leds sometimes give too much light out and the picture just turns white and you can't face them away at all if you understand me.

this is the dvr i use

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/AV-Tech-4-CCTV...QQcmdZViewItem

got it from www.sctltd.co.uk tho.

you also need cable rg59 and some power supplies all cheaper form ebay. Id personally avoid wireless if you can as there more diy and still need cables for the power etc.

I bought cameras and a PC card off ebay from hong kong. Infrared night vision and colour for the price of one camera from screwfix. Can't fault it. I am using an old windows 95 comp, to record video files. Security for less than Ł100. And I set it up in 10 mins. Scan ebay!!!

Get a Axis 207W , its a stand alone wireless webcam with built in webserver and can email or FTP captured images. Plus you can view it live from anywhere.

There not cheap , around Ł200, but there the best.

This is the wife coming home tonight
