im thinking of getting one of these after christmas but wondered if theyre decent cars and if anyone has one or has owned one can tell me what to look out for.
how are they for country lanes?

any idea how they compare to a punto gt?
what sort of mpg do they return?

puntos arent poo the gt are great cars
rad i know i have a food adiction PMSL
anyway i do fancy a 106 gti they look better and are less common than the saxo vts
just wondering what a 900 mile a weekend is going to cost me as opposed to my current cars 50+ mpg

I had a 106 gti for a while it was like a go kart! Blew the engine in it within a few of weeks of having it though

Great fun though, highly reccomended.

see the above thread for my input as a maxo owner. the maxo is always cheaper than the 106 and is really the same car!

mpg can be excellent. up to 30 odd mpg.

I'd agree, not the best motorway cruisers as they're a bit noisy but on a long motorway run ( like to Cornwall ) sticking to 4000rpm we used to get about 40ish

but a s1 rallye and do a 16v conversion, or buy 1 of the mny s1 16v rallyes that are for sale at the mo.

always wanted a 106 rally s1 , 1.3 and about 100bhp arnt they ?

always heard good things about the 106gti too

My mate had a gold 106 gti, spent some money tweaking it and it gave some more powerful cars a run for there money. He did a 0-60 once and got around 6.2.

He had a rally on a m reg aswell and that was really quick for a 1.3

I used to luv mine, ive had many diffrent cars over the years but the little 106gti is defo 1 id consider haveing again they really do fly & handle so so well out of the box.. my old 1 below

Car magazine had one at their Best Handling Day in 97 at Combe ( pre chicanes )

Impreza Turbo time... - 76.83 secs
Integra ITR DC2 time - 78.94 secs
106 Gti time .............- 79.63 secs
Puma 1.7 time........... - 83.15 secs
