Default Weight Gain!?

OK well after being in a shitty place & time in my life have decided to suck it up & move on wiht shit!

Have decided I am gunna re-join a gym as i have bugger all to do on week nights & weekends anymore & now i dont have a gf i have a lot of xtra energy to burn!

Last time I regulary visited a gym i got very fit & was able to lift quite a lot but still remained a skinny coont just very tight!

Need to get fit agian as a walk to the car nearly kills me now! but I would also like to build muscle & get bigger which obviously involves weight gain!

So what sort of foods should I be eatin & how should they be cooked!? also do these weight gain drinks/shakes work!?

It's just common sense really, loadsa meat, egg, fish etc along with carbs (preferably complex carbs like brown pasta, brown bread, brown rice etc etc....). If you've got a very fast metabolism then it probably won't matter about going for complex carbs, just go on a "See Food Diet" ie you see it, you eat it

Train hard & to failure, only once a week per bodypart. If the gym you know is a decent one then they will be able to help you with the finer details of all of the above.

As far as supplements go, weight gainers, protein powders, creatine etc do help but if you're only just starting off then I'd suggest just eating a decent diet & training hard for several months until you hit a plateau & then try supplements to help you get past it, along with changing your routine fairly regularly.

HTH's

Cheers,
Ian

I wouldnt knock the power of a pool dude... best form of exercise you can do. You'll be building muscle mass in the pool to.. and on a much wider range of muscle groups than in the gym just doing specific weight training. summat to think about ... no point having arms like popeye and pidgeon chest, gotta work it all dude.

As for weight gain, i'd personally stick to just eating more red or white meat, plenty of fish and other 'sensible' foods. Ive never believed in all the get big quick toot... its not good for you in the long run. if ya gonna do it, do it properly over a few months and dont be too quick to be looking for results... it takes time and hard work.

best gym to join if you actually wanna get built and fit is a boxing gym, you dont ahve to compete at all or even spar if you dont want to, but the trainers there and others are soo pushy and competitive that you will come home absolutely fooked guaranteed they dont stop training

or you could just spend a month or two on steroids wont get you that fit mind :P probably wont do your kidneys or liver much good either

If it's a decent gym they should also be able to do you a diet aswell Lewis, based on foods you like, your cooking ability etc. It sounds like it probably is by your description so you should be fine but if not then stick me on your MSN list or sommit & I'll do my best to help ya

PMSL @ 2months Yeah aslong as you keep that attitude you'll probably stick at it, most people do expect to turn into a world class bodybuilder within a couple of months & then get disheartened & give up. Takes time, dedication & patience

TRB mate, as well as the food that you are gonna be eating if you want to build muscle mass rather than just tone up you have to do a different type of exercise.

Lifting a tiny little weight say 100 times aint gonna do nothing in terms of strengh but will help stamina. Its strengh that you need to build in order to get bigger.

Go down the gym and see what weights you can hardly lift. Then pick the next one or two down the scale and lift these maybe 3 to 5 reps. When you cant lift anymore immediately grab the next weight down or two, and lift this 3 to 5 or whatever you can now physically lift, and so forth until you get down to just the bar and cant lift it!! lol.

This is called pyramid, trouble is if someone comes in and sees you on the final weight lol and really strugglin

HTH.

Do it!

Im sitting next to personal trainer and he said do it! As far diet goes, need to eat a minimum of 1G of protein for every1 pound of body weight... shakes and weight gain help achieve this... IE: 300lb body builder would find it very hard to eat AT LEAST 300g of protein purely from food itself!!

HTH

You'll find it even harder to put on weight if you're burning off all those extra calories your eating!

Whatever you do, make small changes. If you jump into a completely different diet straight away, you and your body won't like it and you'll revert back to normal. Start making small changes at each meal, maybe start to have something between meals too and slowly aclimatise your body to the changes.

Breakfast is also one of the most important meals so don't skimp on this.(i actually find it hard to eat straight away so don't have breaky until 60-90mins after getting up.

Good foods have been mentioned, spuds, fish, read meat(in moderation i would advise), don't be afraid of the odd burger especially as you have a fast metabolism. Cut the booze out too as this has negative effect and will reduce your bodys growth.

Don't train too often either. Most people fail because they go balls out and knacker themselves. I only train 3 times a week and over the past 10years have never consistently trained anymore than this. Stick to some of the bigger exercises such as bench, deadlifts and squats and concentrate on getting stronger on these exercises.

On the subject of supplements you pay your money and take your choice, I don't take a weight gain anymore, but they used to be almost pure sugar - not good. I do use a quality protein powder though(Maximuscle Pro Max) but changing your diet to consistently eat a little bit more will help

Consistency is the key, especially weekends when you may move away from your normal weekly routine. You have to concentrate on getting your meals in.

Good Luck.

Drop us a line if you want anymore advice.

lewis , if your anything like me , your gna struggle .
i used to be 10 stone no matter what i ate , i then joined a gym and spent a fortune on addatives , even went to the extreme of injections twice a week because the oral's werent working . i gave it up last year m8 as i reached 12stone and simply found it IMPOSSIBLE to get any bigger . the only benefit i have now is im strong for my size and dont suffer from all my mood swings.
my m8 on the other hand was exactly the same size and weight as i was and after just two years he's a massive 16 stone geezer (moody coont tho) and works as a doorman when he's not starring in porn films

if your not meant to be big , you wont be it doesnt mean you cant be strong or toned . i mean even tho im only 12 stone 5ft 10 . i can easily lift my saff engine in and out on my own which is good enuff for me
