Default Quick Answer Needed: Cash or Bankers Draft?

If you're selling a car how safe is it to accept a bankers draft?

Don't have any experience with them myself.

Thanks

When Ive sold a car and they want to pay with a draft they also have to give me the branch telephone number and the name of the person who issued it so I can phone and check it was issued from that bank

Neither did I mate, till I sold my 3i recently - took a combination of cash and bankers draft on that, and to be really safe I went to my bank my the buyer and deposited it there and then and they gave me the all clear and everything was fine

Basically it's gonna clear as it can't be stopped and it is the bank (who wrote the draft) thats paying you the money as the buyer has already paid the bank the money.... If you get me.

I'd deffo use it again when selling a car - nice and easy

exactly what i was gonna say. how many bankers drafts have you ever seen? would you know a fake one? no, me neither! - its cash only or a trip to the bank with the buyer to verify the draft (as per thrushs post)

as above really call the bank, ask for id to match the name and normally there bank card should have details on it that tallys up with the numbers on the draught

i have no prob accepting draughts but i do check them v well

cash only and even then I'd rather meet at a bank so they can check they are genuine.

Luckily my missus can tell a fake from 100 meteres so I was ok when I sold mine (No offence andy)

as what Steve says above, bankers drafts can be easily forged now... Money transfer (BAC's or CHAPS) into your account before they pick it up is safest... But in all fairness, you cant beat pound notes in your hand (just make sure they are real!!)
