Is that why Gary had a chap with a 500bhp Escos ask him what he had done to his (almost standard) Evo at Donington on National Day?? I can't think of ANY car on the road that handles better than the Evo. They are just SO rigid.
Tyres are something to be considered. The Standard Yokohama A-046's are incredible (they have VERY stiff sidewalls and excellent grip), but they are about Ł150+ each.

LOL lads lads lads,
Im a ex evo owner and MOD here www.lancer-evo.net
I know a little about evo's and the above is bollox
The engine is VERY VERY VERY dam good, the handling is second to none on tarmac and gearbox's transfer boxes and drive shafts are all very strong
Tuning is very easy, but MUST be done correctly
Fuelling is the main concern when modding.
The worst thing for going wrong is the AYC diff at the rear, it needs the oil changing every 3000 miles or so and must be done by a mitsu dealer or a specialist evo tuner like Mark Shead or Rc developments etc.
Other bad point on the evo 6 is the front brakes, they need upgrading, not through lack of size but through the design of the bell on the discs
the brakes only squeal with harder pads installed
clutches can last 20,000 miles or 60,000 depends a lot on driving style
check out our site above and have a look at the buyers Guide thats the best advice
you wont look back

bbigman2000 can you find out how to adjust, or tell me the camber on a 7 'cause the one my mate has.....which he has crashed 3 times now, back end breaking away ....drives like poo.
I have driven a 6 which I think was very good
Also the fuel usage IS crap ,and tank capacity is at least 10 litres less than cossies. Very annoying on the way to Germany when I used one full tank, and we had to stop twice for EVO boy

mate sounds like he has a problem with his AYC diff ? it will either be the pumps failed, or the ayc ecu is fecked up, there are pressure switches etc which fail fairly commonly especially when servicing is poor, as I say clean oils vital for this set up.
pop into our forum mate, we have a guy in kent who's very good Rich, make a post and he will help you im certain
like you say economy is bad, although when set up properly they aint to bad, mine was even worse than a gsr mine was an RS, tanks tiny

My mates 7 that I have driven, and have watched him drive does not handle anything aswell as my Escort Cosworth which I am used to driving.
In my opinion, that is shit. I have been in the 7 with him when he has crashed .....twice on a stretch of road where I go much faster and smoother in control.
He also crashed in the wet on a bend behind me. I was doing 50mph, he was doing 30.
I have driven a 6. It was much much better than the seven. The 6 is not shit IMO

You should try and jack one up!! If you jack one corner, by the time the wheel is off the ground, you have 3 wheels off the ground. They are VERY rigid.
Unlike a Cossie, where if you give it 3 pumps on a trolley jack, you can't open the doors!!

BTW, the 7 has 2 front geometry settings that are fairly simple to change. One is for normal road use and one is a high camber setting for the track. I wonder if your mates car is set to that?? That will make it very skittish and unstable.

1. Shit
2. Ditch finder mode
3. Antidive-preactive yaw diff uncamber/caster set telemetric-protronic, with optional dynamic stiff-diff.
I think his one is set to number 2.

when i picked mine up for the first time the tyres were shagged and the alignment was miles out used to pull over over the road but never to the point i thought i was going to crash!!!!!
but i will say for someone whos never driven one before they do follow every bump in the road and also you feel EVERYTHING the car is doing as it only has 2 turns lock to lock on the steering
they do suffer with lift off oversteer more on roundabouts but i cant say the backend ever normally goes out off shape apart from the spin at donnington
hopefully ill get some video footage from snetterton on wed this week!!

Try here http://www.lancerregister.com/faqindex.php(If the link works)
Everything you need to know.
Fantastic cars In my unbiased opinion(not)
Had a stage 1 4x4 Saph before but an evo is a different beast much more of a rally car for the road.

the suspension arms have ecentric ajustable bushes in them to ajust the camber on the fornt and rear. had my evo 6 4 wheel laser aligned at RC developmetns - and i tell you what - it was literally like drinving adiffernt car, much more sure footed, more controlable, but if "playing" could be made to dance on command, tyre wear greatly reduced once all tracked up correctly aswell, is your mate still running the factory yoko hard as fcuk tyres, if so get them off and get some decent sticky rubber on, the ones they are shipped with are just no good over here in this cold climate.
only thing that ever went on mine was the turbo (which was replaced under warranty) but the cause was the copper who pulled me over reached in anshut her off RED hot, w@nker!

Gary - McDonalds roundabout .
Chris, properly set up Evos are exceptional cars, but as has been said, poorly set up ones are a pile of poo. I think Simon needs to get his sorted ASAP before it gets wrapped around a lamp -post .
