i was watching a programme last night, megastructures i think, anywat there is a place in arabia or something where they have dumped tonnes of sand in certain places in the sea to make small islands and at a distance it look the same as the globe.

it was amazing and the owner is selling the idnividual islands to rich fuckers!!!!!

did any one else see or know of this?

I didn't know that there was anyone that hadn't heard of this!

Your referring to 'The World' off the coast of Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The project has been ongoing for years now and I think the actual building/dredging of the islands is nearly complete now. Next will be infrastructure, utilities and then building the houses.

It is mad!!! But there are several projects like this being build off the UAE coast, but 'The World' is the biggest and most ambitious I think.

they also did something simular to this when they built the channel tunnel, space was at a premium around the site when they was digging out the tunnel so they used the left over earth to build up the coastline so they had space for workers/equipment etc

Fucking God help that under water hotel if a terrorist attack ever goes down at it, that would be carnage.

Seen the other project's before, can't help but think thing's will keep coming up until the've realised building new land at sea is not really a great idea.
