Default please help turbo boffins

This is'nt a techie question more of a opinions please.

Brought a 500bhp 3 door off a guy built by a reputable builder wont name names but it was fine for about a day or so.

Then it started to smoke so traced the fault to the turbo GT30. So i rang the engine builder who offered to repair the turbo which he did'nt have to do as we did'nt have the engine built there the previous owner did.

So the turbo came back after a few weeks we bolted it back on and it smoked again . I rang the builder back and he said send it back again i will get it sorted.

While the car was off the road we bolted on a T34 and went to national day and it did'nt smoke at all so it was deffo the turbo.

Anyway its come back again and its still smoking
So i have been told that you need a restricter on the top of the turbo which it has and it also has a turbo filter so it can't pick up any debris.

any other ideas as i know some of you use these turbos has anybody done anything different than me??

If it smokes, the turbo is fooked or its plumbed as a suck through layout
and the seals are leaking due to high vacuum.

I.E. The throttle is BEFORE the turbo inlet

frstben,

Its unlikely you have a suck through piping set up unless your tuner is in his 80's

The turbo is fooked unless the oil drain is blocked ????????

Its had 2 different rear seals by the sounds of it...
If the rear seal was letting go, and its been back to be sorted twice, then it will have had replacement rear seals both times

How bad is it smoking????

I see where your coming from, but an engine builder is not a turbo builder along the like of carl or Vince...

if you see my point....

hang on amin i have'nt made any halfarsed comments i have already rang everybody that has had dealings with this turbo and if you take the time to read the post alls i wanted was other peoples ideas on the problem ie the people that are running gt30s to see if maybe oil pressure could be a problem or anything else i have missed.

I have rang various other turbo places which say that this is the only one that is giving these simptoms so could it be something else maybe .

So you've spoken to CR Turbo's directly have you? Or just the tuner who built the engine.....I'm sure they would know who you were if they'd had a GT30 back twice for the same fault.

Might be something simple like a seal not completely working properly (If ya see my point)

By getting everyones information together in one pot this makes the solution a lot easier to come by!
