Default Can I Do This

I have an insurance policy in my own name, It says on the certificate of insurance that I am able to drive other cars with owners consent. Does this mean i can drive my uncles ferrari or just my Dads impreza or not even that?

Yes you can drive them so long as the vehicle is insured by the owner and you have owners consent

Yep third party some even have age restriction on policies, so your uncles ferrari might say 'other drivers over the age of.....'

So i take it this is how the 17 year olds round by me can drive around in imprezas. They get their mum to insure their imprezas and just insure a shit mini thats on their drive and you can get away with that?

Be VERY careful here. I used to work in insurance and theres so many clauses and restrictions regarding driving other vehicles.

Some may only allow you to drive other cars of a lower insurance group than the one you have insured. Theres also many other 'get outs' that the insurers often put in the policy schedules, to avoid paying out.

Best to check with your insurers and try and get something in writing if possible.

As PT said though, usually 3rd party only so im sure he wouldnt let you drive his ferrari anyway.

How many people have just crapped their pants after reading the above and rushed for their policy booklets.

Thats when the majority find out they werent actually covered though mate.

Id ring your insurance company to comfirm mate.

I even remember back then that some companies excluded cars over certain insurance groups (usually 17+), and some even stated 'excluding Ford Cosworths' in the small print for this very reason.

insurance aint something i would mess about with... plus its not that easy with insuring a shitty car and driving a better one... you have to do more miles a week in the shitty one, than the better one, so its ok for a second car... but not as a daily driver...

the best way is to get a job with company vehicle, then you can get a good car for weekends!

For MR BRANNEN and his dad breaking the law this is called FRONTING.
The ONLY reason why you think they are not able to do anythingis because they are gathering evidence, it is all to do with the title MAIN USER, the POLICY holder HAS to be the main user.
As siad most if not all drop to 3rd party on driving other vehicles which do NOT have to have thier own insurance in force for this clause to take effect.
This is totally different to the deceit by MR Brannen and his dad, they may well be waiting for an accident to occur so they can then say get lost, not covered, but they will still take your money.
FRONTING is a well known illegal activity, and most get caught, especially if you have ever been stopped.
I think people who do it are arseholes personally, as people find out when they get hit by these people.

Tabetha, the only person who would lose out is me,the 3rd party car i hit would be paid for by my policy, the Cosworth would have to be repaired by me,there is no way the police could prove I wasnt merely "borrowing" my dads Cosworth.
