Default lazy turbo.... ( video update )

i'm running a t34.63 on a 7.2 comp yb at 30psi and i'm not getting full boost till about 5k and it seems to take ages to spool up.
can anyone advise me as to whether these wheels would have anything to do with it...

cheers

not a geniuine garrett T34 is it??? like the ones from escort cossie

T34 intake is smoooooooth, and doesnt have a lip

wheres the turbo from

and before anyone says, get the shaft wheels cutback, dont bother...waste of money for the gain you will see

besides, i know someone thats selling a lightweight MarM-247 shaft that already has the blades cutback

see my sig

you would defo see improvement then

carl

edit to say...IF its a proper T34 spec, then its not to do with the turbo the reason it take so long to come in, try a different actuator

the actuator may be at fault, but make sure you look at the exhaust housing around the wastegate area, if its cracked, it'll take forever to spool my old t3 was really bad worked a treat when i changed the exhaust housing

Default Lazy Turbo

Sounds like the waste gate penny may not be fully closed.

I'd be inclined to agree with Tony and Ade on this one. A turbo this "small" should not spool up that late unless it had a problem - the penny washer not sealing would be the prime suspect for that.

Happened on my 3 door years ago.... it was sluggish as hell. Got that fixed and it dropped the spool up time by 2000 rpm. Let us know what is it when you cure it.

i also have a spare t34 with .63 housing but it has a 34mm restrictor fitted. whats the purpose of the restrictor as im advised its to big for my set up so i bought a stage 2 t34 with .48 instead and that spins up at about 1400rpm.much more usable

i've just looked at the penny washer and it doesnt seem to be sealing properly.
you can see from the photos that the washer isnt in the centre of the hole, and if i shine a torch from the exh side i can see some light from around the top of the washer.

can i just knock the sleeve that holds the washer arm up to raise the washer, or is there another way to do it?

the restrictor was required by the governing body, to basically slow the cars down by restricting airflow into the turbo therefore reducing the possible max power. it kept them to about 300bhp.

Default turbo

Hi, if you have checked the obvious, no air leaks, on the exhaust & from the turbo to the inlet manifold including the intercooler,, also that the airfilter is in good condition, and set the actuator preload correctly, and the penny washer of the wastegate is sealing, then what chip have you got, as the boost is mappable,
i assume the turbo is in good condition, also check your exhaust system is clear, no restrictions. are you using a amal valve,

Regards Dave R.

checked all that apart for the intercooler, i might try putting a standard cooler on it to see if it makes any difference, also got a standard t3 so might try that aswell to see if its the turbo...

I'd say the blades are cut back already.

Any cracks around the penny wont cause much noticable change.

If the rear wheel doesnt fit snug into the rear housing that will cause it to be laggy.

A boost leak would feel laggy too.
