Puppies fighting............
I have a 4 month old labrador and my brother has a 5 month old one. When there together they are CONSTANTLY play fighting, or at least i think the are play fighting. We've tried splitting them up and trying to calm them down, but as soon as you let them go, they start again. Neither has actually been hurt or injured in any way (as of today) which is why im pretty sure there only playing but it does sometimes seem as though their getting a bit serious.
Today, one had a tooth knocked out as there teeth are always clanging together, and the other got a small cut on her ear.
Does anyone know a way of trying to stop them doing this as its such a pain trying to walk them together or take them anywhere in fact.
Any advice on this is appreciated as im really not sure what to do next.

my mum had the same with her dogs. what she did was every time they started to shout, she shook a bottle filled with nuts, they shit them selves and stop, the other thing that that worked, which i found far more entertaining was to shoot them with a water pistol

My 5 yearold Dog plays like that with my 3 month old Puppy.
Dont stop them playing its natural, They will grow out of it.
I mean they will still do it but not constanly.
To be honest i would be worried if the puppies did not play..

This is normal puppy behaviour, it is play but has a serious purpose. Both dogs are trying to see who is the dominant one and you need to be very careful as it can develope into serious sibling rivalry.
They need to be socialised with other dogs which will show them how to behave with other dogs. Try to take them puppy training, many vets advertise these. Once they are around adult dogs, they soon realise what behaviour is acceptable and what is not.
Do not ignore this behaviour, once they have a serious fight then they can never be trusted alone together again.
I had 2 German Shepherd bitches who grew up together and suddenly decided that each wanted to be pack leader and fought each other so badly that they had to be permanently separated.

i had the same issue with my beagle and my father's brittany spaniel. the spaniel would fook up my beagle good. finally my mother sent the spaniel off the training and when she came back a couple weeks later she stopped attacking the beagle, but we still couldn't trust them to be left alone while we were out.

We have 2 bitches, these started fighting once while my mum in the garden, she came in greeted to a bloodbath...both were seriously hurt but they survived(just)...just watch them puppies mate, as has already been said may develop into something more violent.

Cheers all. I think ill leave them both out in the garden for a full day this weekend, and just keep my eye on them. Surely after a couple of hours they'll stop and fall asleep or something.
By the way, ones male and ones female, and she always seems to get the upper hand, so i think she is definalty the more dominant, so i suppose its just that he doesnt want to accept it just yet???
Im 90% sure there just playing though as im sure they could hurt each other if they wanted too. Even though there only yound, they seem very strong.
I thought it maybe because they only see each other probably 2-3 times a week? Would it be a good idea to let them live in the same house for a week or something maybe?

Well, we had a little accident yesterday, resulting in my brothers hurting his leg. I think he just landed on it funny and he's badly sprained it. the x-ray showed no breaks or anything so thats good. Lucky not have broken anything really i suppose but feel so sorry for him as he cant walk on it and has to stay in one of the cages for a while (the vet said a week ) so he can rest it properly, as he still wants to jump around like a mad man.
Not sure whether to keep them apart now when they come round or when we go round to his. We've tried everything mentioned and nothing seems to be helping them going crazy together. The vet said its fine to leave them at it, but we dont want anything like this to happen again obviously.
It may just be one of those things so who knows.

just finding my feet
NEVER break up dogs fighting !!!!
eventually one will back down
my old dog was a CUNT for fighting,, even killed 3 animals too though was not fighint to the death
when he used to fight i used to try and pull em apart and they wopuld carry on biting the fuck out of me too,,,, then i was told to take him training and i did
they let him fight with a rottie and wouldnt let me get involved,, they fought for about 5 mins then the rottie lay down on the floor and then they started chasing each other like puppies,,, they NEVER fought again
its dominance and getting involved, kicking dogs NEVER helps, one needs to back down and the other win
same with puppies but theres less likely to cause injury to each other aslong as theres space for them both
btw if you got a white dog ect after a fight any form of blood and that dog looks like a rabid wolf man killer,,,, well mine did anyway even though HE was the one bleeding

I have a 12 month old black lab dog and the misses sister has a 3 year old black lab bitch, both fight and mess about, grabbing each others legs, but the bitch seems to be the more dominant, if shes had enough of him she lets him know. I wouldnt worry about them "playing" to be honest
