Importing a Puppy from Ireland (got one)
Anyone know the rules ect about taking a puppy into the uk?
Looking at buying a pup over in Ireland but not sure on the rules and regs involved with getting it back into the UK
Had a browse but there are so much different stories about.
Any help much appreciated.
Thanks

let me guess. you want to get a boxer dog, but since earlier this year, tail docking has been banned in the uk apart from working dogs (gundogs) and you feel that a boxer dog does not look right with a long tail, hence why looking into importing one from ireland?
I have a boxer that has a docked tail as she was born before the ban came into force. I admit, i have seen a couple of boxer pups with long tails and they do look a bit strange. If my bitch has a litter then we will most likely keep one which obviously will have a long tail

Ronnie,
Thats correct.
There is a total ban up here in Scotland even for working dogs which is why i am prepared to pay the extra costs and travel for the right dog.
Needs to be a pup as it will grow up with my daughter just like my wifes boxers did with her over the years.

Just MOT it and pay the VAT when you bring it home, and you'll be fine
I highly doubt there are any restrictions on this, unless you try to fly it home lol.
I know there arent any restrictions over the border here between Northern Ireland and Southern Ireland, or when taking boats from Northern Ireland to the mainland.

Got one last weekend and he is a cracker.
No issues with customs, only thing needed was a letter from the vet stating that he was in good health and fit for travel.
Left the place in Ireland at 15:00 Sat and got in the door here at 05:30 Sun
Dog was the perfect passenger all journey
He has taken to our 3yr old daughter like you wouldnt beleive and they are best buddies already
Few pics of him
