My god it is sooooo shit

My mums ST3 had the warning light come up on the dash, it was the really bad one where your supposed to stop and call for help.

She gets it home (1/2 mile) phones up Ford and they say bring it down. Mum says it the bad light, they say well we aren't recovering the car your have to call break down.

Luckily my mum has RAC so they pick the car up the following day

They get it there start the car and the light has gone!

They plug it in and its diagonised as being the battery is fucked.

They want nearly £200 for the battery! its not even 18months old and has done about 6K miles! Wasn't covered by warrenty!

Surely when you buy a new battery you get 3-4 years warrenty anyway!

Luckly for me Honda have been outstanding, just shame Ford seem to give a lot of people hassel.

My dad cant fault his honda warranty. The air con went out of warranty on his civic and they replaced it under an extended waaranty. No quibble. Charged him for a non reusable part to get the the part that had broken, but gave him a decent discount on the next service.

Quite honestly most ford dealers are a bunch of muppets! My dad's had experiences with them aswell

batteries and bulbs only have a 12month warrenty iirc!

£200 is a rip off though, get yourself down car spares place, £50 max.

Sorry, gotta agree with Tabetha on this one.

Ford have a standard 3-year warranty. Even the battery will have a 4-year guarantee sticker on the front of it (as it will be a Silver Calcium job).

The battery is probably about £80, with the other money being for the labour to fit it (normally about £90+ vat per hour in my old dealer).

And if for some god-forsaken reason Ford have decided not to cover batteries for more than 12 months (can't see that myself), a good moan to Customer Services will get the problem resolved. All they do is ring the garage in question, and tell them to sort it.

plain to see and not hidden .

Ford are no different to any other "bread and butter " manufacturer.

Shocking price just for a battery aint it !! Even if it is one of the silver calcium jobbies.

Im guessing that Ford have changed the warranty and now only give a 12 months warranty from the date of sale/registration for a battery as i have replace quite a few under warranty in the past when i worked for Ford.

Must be a big job to replace one on this car as Ford warranty only used to allow 0.2 of an hour for fitting the new battery and maybe another 0.2 or 0.3 for checking and clearing any stored fault codes in the ECU using the WDS computer.

They are probably charging you £100 for the battery and the rest will be for labour


As mentioned abouve though i would definately get in touch with Customer Services and complain like fuck about it, they pay up almost every time you have a valid complaint and im sure this would be no exception.

It must be worth a few ear bending phone calls, the batteries are a LOT cheaper than that, you don't NEED a calcium battery as the charging system will cope comfortably with a normal battery, just needs to be a more controlled charge for a calcium one.
