Default ABS Warning light

as title, on a D Reg ERST.

When should it come on/go off.

At the moment, the light comes on and goes off when the handbrake is put on or off. Can't think of it ever being any different, but the garage doing the MOT is saying that they're gonna have to call Ford to double check on it??

Someone mentioned that since it's an older RS, the ABS system is mechanical rather than electrical, so it is working fine?

Anyone know a definite answer?

Cheers

stupid question but does yours have abs?

as every turbo ive had without abs when you put the handbrake on it lights up both icons for abs and handbrake

but yours is working fine anyhow as long as it doesnt stay on when handbrake is off then no problem

it's mechanical, driven by 2 little belts from the driveshafts and hooked up into the brakes somewehre

a bit over complicated and i thi they were trying to look for a shortcut rather than putting on the full caboodle and loads of people just pull the bulb out and remove the belts

i can't see why not
there is no light on the dash to say it's got abs
when they check it won't have any belts
job done

it's not an electronic braking device so it needs no warning lights to tell you something is wrong

The ACTUAL functioning of the lights for abs etc is clearly listed in the books that MOT people have to have by law, so a bit dopey to phone ford, he is obviously incompetent.

If you're going to rmeove the ABS (which I would highly recomend as it's shit) you can't just cut the belts off. You need to remove the modulators and replumb the brakes properly.

BTW your ABS light is operating correctly the bloke's a gibbon
