Default Nitrous is it cheating

Hi
Want a discussion on this as after two years & lots of hard graft & design , ive got the stuff to work properly on my Cossie . Is it any different to say a bigger Turbo
Race cams
7 speed box
Race Fuel
or like me do you consider it another tuning aid.
No other product will supply Power/Torque in equal ammounts as readily as Nitrous once you have ironed out its problems.
Do you consider that in the end all the Top cars will go that way at events like totb.

I do not think nitrous is cheating but I always look more faveroubly on a car that makes its power without it. I'm not saying that view is right or wrong it's just the way I feel.

I would always look at it that an equivalent engine, but with the same power as the NOS equipped one, would be the "better" engine (for obvious reasons), but at the end of the day, 200mph is 200mph .

to use big amounts of nitrous you need knowlage and understanding so its far from an easy cheat. Nitrous is the way forward WITH big turbos

I beleive it is NOT cheating because you cant just chuck nitrous on a car and get the power, well, you could but it wouldnt last. The engine still has to be able to handle this power increase, therefore it is just the same has upping the boost on turbo in theory

talking with my mates they call it a 'poor mans tuning!'

however this is when its on low power cars. by the sounds of it rod you have already taken your car pretty much to its limits tuning wise & think its ok to squeeze a little more power out of it by using gas!

Agree Danny, its taken a long time to get it right & now its incredible.

Can ui explain why Nitrous was used on my car.
I wanted a drivable street car similar to my old conversion. Target was 600bhp/500ft/lb & the Torque is low down so very drivable.
Could have gone for 700 but Mark warned the cam changes etc would lose the streetability to some extent, so i opted for Nitrous as a top-up as it delivers Power/Torque in equal ammounts in my opinion the best of both worlds.

rod;
congratulations on topping the 200 figure and I mean that!
in my view the record at brunters(per ford)was always done on pump fuel so in this context yes I think its a cheat(my view)
again fair play but i still think the car without the nos is superior!

good topic

i think that nitrous is definatly NOT cheating for a nitrous system to work efficently and produce the power where its needed alot of work and detailed understanding of the stuff is required just as much, maybe more than other tuning techniques.

congrats on +200mph by the way.

I'll do what I like old man. (call me laddie)

From Stu's post he said he'd spoke to everyone and they were going to stop all these tiresome posts. This post is CLEARLY a dig and a post to start an argument.

I honestly wish Stu had kept you all banned......

i wouldnt say cheating as such but it has been said (no way a dig before i get jumped on and clearly untrue in marks case) its for people who cant build or spec engines properly to start with

like i say not a dig or making reference to mad

(sad that i have to put such a declaration here but i know how it will be taken by some just cos i said it, and that aint how i mean it)

Fair enough.

If it was me that had just come back from a ban 10 minutes earlier. I don't think this is the sort of topic I'd be posting. Seems a little disrespectful to Stu who just let everyone back.

Carry on... you don't need my help to turn this post to sh1t!

And no - I don't this NOS is cheating but i would personalyl rather a car that did xxxbhp all the time.

cos all you lot have been bleedin on about the last week or so is that poxy 200mph. This is clearly following on from that. Act all innocent if you like but you KNOW that this topic is likely to cause any argument. about Karls car and Rods. Don't be so nieve in thinking it wouldn't.

Anyway. I'l leave it here. Do as you wish. I just wish some of you guys would post some decent stuff. I'm sure you'd have some useful stuff to contribute to the community if you didn't get into these tuner wars and all this dyno proven stuff!!

NOS, Slicks, Areo Dynamics, Methanol, Race Fuel etc etc is using what is avalible to go as fast as poss how can that be cheating

if cossies stop using NOS cos its cheating they will just get left behind as all other marques now use it so why cant we

To many people bitching about other peoples\tuners methods maybe its time to realise you also share a common goal pushing foward the cosworth tuning scene and proving to other marques just how far a Cosworth Engines etc can be engineered and how much there capable of

Yes me too... thats why Simons 200mph run impressed me sooo much and also Andy Barnes 9.6 WITHOUT NOS

I don't think its cheating, BUT I would MUCH MUCH MUCH rather have any engine that doesn't need it.

It takes NOTHING away from your achievment though Rod and as you say there is fair amount of Skill in getting it working properly

Quick Reply: Nitrous is it cheating
