Default Golf PD150 (diesel) - black smoke on boost

Hi all,

I have a Golf 150 diesel remapped on a 2002 plate. And recently noticed its starting to give more than normal black smoke when on boost. I've also noticed a louder induction sound and when coming off the gas a louder than normal dump valve type of sound (no after market dump valve fitted).

I've checked the following:

Air filter - was ok
Boost hoses - were ok

The only thing i can think of is leaking injectors its done 90k

any thoughts?

Thanks
Bobby

Shove some MILLERS DIESEL CLEANER in there, works ace it does.
Then try running a tank of BIO DIESEL as this has a natural cleaning action as well, it also goes a lot better on it.

very common probelm on the golf tdi 150 is the cam lobes wear and doesnt open the valve properly.

it has happened to 2 of my friends cars with the exact same probelm as yours, you will need a new set of lifters and a new camshaft

take your rocker cover off and check each lobe and each lifter

the PD will die on bio.

pd engines dont.

and the pipe will have split because the brake reservoir cap will have rubbed it away.

thats strange, as i would for a well known supplier of unit injectors (PD's) and in our testing we have found that bio has very little adverse affects on these?

I thought split pipe too.

If you look in the flap for the filler neck you will see a sticker that says "Bio Diesel" and a cross through it. Given that VW spend a few quid on developing the engine, I suspect that as PD runs very high pressures compared to older Diesels theres probably a good reason for their decision.
