Cosworth B&M Quickshift question...
I bought myself a quickshift kit for the 3dr, and ive just been outside fitting it.
took all the centre consul out, got all boots etc off, but to my horror, it looks like you have to drop the gearbox to get to the 2 bolts at the front of the gearbox casing that hold the stick in. Is that right?
If so, fuck it. it can go on ebay as i cant be arsed doing that!
What would be the easiest way to get around it?

yeah u have to as far as im aware, had trouble removing the old shifter from my saph when jim green wanted it, god damn though it would be a 5 minute job.
You just have to loosen the bolts on the gearbox xmember, not remove them.
Just means jacking the car up, bit of a ball ache i know

yeah just loossen the bolts, dont completely remove them, i think that allows enough room for the front 2 bolts on the selector to be removed and the selector to come out.

i hope not cos then it DEFINATELY aint going in! lol
Just jacked the car up, and there are 4x13mm nuts that hold the xmember to the bottom of the car. Pretty easy to get too aswell. So im gunna use my jack, and take the weight off the box, then loosen the nuts right off.

i can change gear faster than the synchro's can get ready on a box without a quick shift fitted.

the hardest part of that job IS removing the center console! the undercar mechanics part is then pretty straight forward compared to it, but it invloves rolling round on your back in the drive handling an oily gearbox(probably ) which i suppose some people dont like

jesus!! If fitting a T5 quickshift phases you then I would put down the spanners and step away from the car
1) take the centre tray off, have to unplug the window switches as well, and there are a few x-head screws holding the trim in. The gaitor is held down by a plastic square ring, held on by 4 nuts- Take them off, and lift the gaitor up, and take off the top half of the gearstick, 2x 13mm bolts I seem to remember.
2) Don't even have to jack the car up, just stick a jack under the box tail, and take the wieght of the box. Drop the 4x13mm nuts off the captive bolts.
3) gently lower the box so you have access to the 4 bolts holding the shifter in from the top of the tunnel. Remove, and replace with the B&M, remembering to pack the joint with grease . Bolt on the B&M until it is nipped up, then make sure you can get all the gears. Adjust until its good, then bolt it in firm, and repeat the removal sequence.
Should take you an hour max, is easy peasy

im not saying i CANT do it! I
I've just rebuilt my cossie engine by myself FFS!
I was just saying, that when your half way through a job, and it starts pissing down, it really annoys you.
I basically had it all apart in 10 mins, and when i saw where the 2 bolts were sitting under the gearbox tunnel, i just couldnt be arsed as it started raining. So now the gear stick is back on until its a nice day again.
