As I was asking about the 2wd fanimould is it the plenum cover part that gets modified or the removeable elbow that attached the throttle body to the cover ? (four bolt flange on one end and a three bolt flange on the other)

The elbow needs to be modified to fit in the rush so if theres something I can do to make it better nows the time. Can I get rid of the dividing web which runs down its middle ? Is it worth polishing it as the internal finish is really scabby ?

It has been shown in tests of airflow a slightly rougher surface actually promotes flow, NOT smoother which was my thinking but don't know anything about airflow.

I had heard similar about ‘polished’ surfaces but I thought that was more to do with fuel atomization in the port area.

I am not really thinking of a mirror finish, I just want to get rid of some of the snotty casting lumps as the finish is really bad. If its not good to get rid of the central web I will knife edge it as it is quite wide and also very lumpy

I was thinking of a finish like in the throats of my head. They look like they have been finished with a emory paper flap wheel i.e. lots of small lines / scratches but smooth to the touch.

I did the same thing in the inlet trumpets as the seam in the casting was about 3mm proud in some places

I did my inlet manifold by sanding with me black and decker the casting marks.
Cant see that removing the bridge is going to do a lot with FI, as already under pressure.
There may be a reason it is there also!, it is easier to make without it, maybe it helps the air distribution at high revs, don't know just a thought.

I just did a test (short pull in 4th gear) with my 4wd manifold that is modified same as in those pictures and the EGT's (one in each runner) were, from cyl 1 to 4, 697c, 696, 716 and 706. The air distribution doesn't seem that bad, but I'll need to do some more testing as soon as I have time.

The central web IS there for a reason.

Due to the way the charge leaves the compressor it will spin as it travels down the charge pipe.

If an intercooler is fitted this will iron out the spinning effect at this point.

However, depending on how it is thrown out of the IC, as the charge travels down the next pipe the friction caused by the air passing the sides of the pipe will cause it to naturally spin agiain.

If the charge entered the plenum spining without the central web it would tend to feed the cylinders at one end more.

As i say i don't think it is too much on a cossie as the IC matrix removes the majority of the spinning.

friend of mine has a rolling road printout with 2wd manifold and he had 490hp, but that doesn't mean that he would not have got more with a better plenum. And other friend of mine had 560hp with 4wd plenum and spacer.

It's the point that it becomes restrictive and after which you get ever deminishing returns despite trying to ram more air into the engine.

I have some pictures on my computer of a beautifully modded elbow, I'll post them up later - again by one of the Scandinavians .

I neew the elbow to be separate as it has to have the TB flange chopped off, rotated 180 so it angled downwards and then rewelded. The throttle body is also fitted with the ICV pointing downwards to clear a chassis member.

I dont think this hacking about can be done with the 4x4 manifold.

I know there is the Swedish option (and that or similar may come in future) but for now I think the power will be 'adequate'
