Default car related question quiz time !!!

does anyone know why the rubber gaskets like rocker cover gaskets ect all have a metal bead in them to keep there shape ????

what technical reason could there be for this ????

i couldnt belive it when i found out

and there all made like that after for a POINTLESS reason of them all looking the same otherwise mechanics would send them back for being the WRONG part

ill tell you why soon though,,,, its soo easy though its pointless but interesting though

but then i also thought the new headgaskets being made from 1 layer of thing steel interesting too son i may not interest you

it shows just how untechy some parts for cars REALLY are though,,, engines are more advanced these days we all know and run hotter we all know but the technology that solving these problems is actually rather basic,,,, so basic that its being over looked too

ok the answer is ........

they have wire in them as all engines are built buy robots and so they need the wire in them to allow the robot to pick them up and place them on the engine

to keep the shape and for the robot to pick it up magnetically

after that they can be made of just rubber but they discovered that garages was turning them back claiming there the INCORECT part as the one they took off as made of rubber and has a wire bead

yes garages are dumb

interesting yet soooo simple,,,, there is NO other reason for this no matter what you are told,,, this is the ONLY reason for it

imagine a robot picking up a bit of rubber,,, simple isnt it

i was thinking of the metal rings around the bolt holes, these prevent squash

nope, torque settings prevent squash

they prevent the gasket moving though,,, but thats for the robots,,,, the idiots,,,, sorry mechanics also benifit though

did you also know that some engines have suspect designs to them that seem to make them fail at certain milage,,,, renault clio diesel engines are one of them !

the cam pully needs to be changed at 50k miles as theres a "key" that holds the center in place from free wheeling ,,, they made the centers seperate from the rest of the pully,,, when the tooth fails at 50k miles they diesel engine is FOOKED

strange they design it this way though aint it

no they prevent the gasket squashing cos most non genuine gaskets dont have them, and if you torque them they squash and leak

JTECHSAFF
i do agree on that but you can still get a good seal if you can evenly tighten up the bolts

the bolts are put in locations so they DO seal around the bolt holes though,,, look at a gasket and you will see that the surface should be flat and as such when the bolts are pinched up at the right torque setting they seal

most headgaskets fail from incorrect fitting

the fire rings on a head gasket should spin free before fitting but when fitted it should be squashed evenly in place,,, thats how it seals by the crush

the gaskets only have 2 jobs,,, to allow for thermal conditions and to make a presure seal

all of them do that,,, most are fitted wrong im afraid to say

theres a few with design issues,,,, some are trying to do a job there no ment to

oh and some people favor gaskets for no reason other than personal choice

the OLD name in gaskets was payen,,,, i STILL get people who wont use anyone else,,, when payen is prob the most outdated and underdeveloped gasket there is in the market

the best is obvious,,, but the other companys now are allowed to copy there designs as there designs to not allow them to be patanted for some reason and i cant remember why

yes they just buy gaskets from main dealers,,, take em to a lab and test them, measure them up and then get the tooling to make me,,, simple,,, then when they fail they rely on there engine building companys feedback and solve the issues from there

the idea of sealing a engines fluid with old tree bark is someone intersing

it was used as cost fuck all to make the stamp machines,, could be made in there thousends and would soak up the oil and after a year be replaced for a new one to do the same thing

simple aint it

the other issue is that people try to reuse gaskets,,,, never understood that one when you understand what they actually do and how they work
