BG tried to put up the price of my gas retrospectively, they told me they had forgoton to put the price up 6months ago and were gonna charge me the extra on my next bill, you can guess what I told them and they eventually gave up chasing me for it.

No doubt,if I tried to rejoin they would add that £80 back to my bill somehow.

If you look at it another way you have actually had a good deal, the money you should have paid for the electricity months ago that you have used has been sat in your pocket not in theirs, they have now realised this and want it paying up.

Well I have been paying 125 a month for 14months, did not notice as they have not been bills every 3 months. Got a estmaited bill of 760 in credit.

asked for the money back, but they said need a actual reading gave it to them, then got a bill for 2700 in debit.

We rang back and suggested they were on crack, anyway our gas meter had been changed. they sent a guy round to check.

well they owe us 1800 now, merry christmas British Gas.

No its down to you to pay your bills. Its called responsibility no good looking for get outs you can check your meter readings if you think they are wrong. You could have checked your estimated readings against actual & suggest more be taken. You held onto the money you owed them now they want it back seems fair to me.

this is a trick someone i used to know did
when they where in their teenage years and moved out of home, rent in london was mega expencive, on their flat, they had a external meter, so the said person took a reading off it 2 week prior, wrote it down, then smashed the fuck out of it with a hammer, and reported it to the landlord as vandelised. landlord did fuck all.
person got their next quaterly bill and gave the readong off it from 2 weeks before it was smashed up, next bill give the reading from 2 weeks later. took them over a year to replace the meter.

see with things like that its understandable that they want an accurate read before they give you a refund as you may have owed them money! the meter being exchanged isnt anything to do with british gas thats a completely different company that owns the meter and a different company owns the pipework up to that meter so British Gas would have been in the dark about the meter being changed as its up to the other company to inform them!

glad you got some money back but it wasnt BG fault tbh!

I recently queried with BG why I was paying 290 a month direct debit, they asked for an updated meter reading which I gave them, I ended up with a 1300 refund and DD dropped to 120 a month.
