Default bodyshop estimator

just been for an interview at a body shop that was advertising for an apprentice painter/sprayer.. mid-way in to the interview he stops and says due to my age (21) and him not being desperate for a sprayer would i be intrested in being a trainee estimator? of course i said yes and we got talking a bit more about it and shown around the building.

is anyone else on here a estimator? what sort of money should i expect as a trainee and what are the highs and lows of the job?

I used to recruit estmiators and some can command good good money.......Audatex or Autodex are the two best computer based estimating systems you will need to learn.
there is another called Glassmatix but i dont think many people use this anymore.

i think the average for someone with 3/-4 years solid experience is about Ł10-15ph
Hope that helps

hello mate im an estimator at at days arc used to be alan day in neasden west london its a good job and you will enjoy doing it if your really into cars and understand how they are put together, the worst bit of the job is arguing with engineers over times and how they only see 1 hour repairs when really its a 3 hour job , as a trainee you should be on about 18k then you just slowly move up to about 30 k ish and a company car which is not too bad for a job you enjoy . as said above the main estimating systems are audaenterprise which used to be audatex and as also said glassmatix which is a thatcham based system.

hope this helps mate if you have any questions you can chuck me a pm

thanks

tony

i didn't know you worked at Days, they've stopped using us for parts since the old MSC parts guy started there, any chance you could look into getting us back in there???? We still do the Ford/Iveco/Mazda & Citroen, we are also starting to do Peugeot now aswell.
