what firewall is it?

Most firewalls will say "hey hang on so and so is trying to gain access to the net, do you want me to let it in or not" and you say yes and off you go back to normal.

Not Windows firewall - unless you make an exception for a programme it just blocks it....

But Limewire claims that with XP and Windows Firewall, support in the Limewire app is intergrated, making temporary exceptions when you have Limewire running, to allow Limewire access through the firewall, which then shut again when you exit the programme....

In my expirience, thats not strictly true tho - not on my PC (I have Windows Firewall turned off as I have Zone alarm instead) and my sisters PC won't allow Limewire through even after I manually added it to permanent exception, and forwarded it a specific port through the router....

Turn it off however, works fine!

Bit of a pain in the ass doing that every time you start limewire, just download zonealarm and disable windows firewall, sorted

go into control panel, then find windows firewall and double click that. click on the exceptions tab, and then click add programme and just find limewire and add it, then it should work hopefully

Your easiest option (as ive already said above) is to disable windows firewall and download zonealarm http://www.filehippo.com/download_zonealarm_free/

Well download it first and install it before you turn off windows firewall, when zonealarm is working start limewire then a box should pop up saying limewire is trying to connect, click on "accept" and thats it, should work fine then
Im using limewire/zonealarm combo so i know it will work

Hang on a sec, you turned the firewall off(a little red icon should appear in the system tray where the clock is?) and then limewire still says the firewall is blocking it? is that what your saying

Other than that I can't help, i'm shite with computers

As Big G says above, once your sorted have a look at soulseek as an alternative.

Are you 100% sure that you did actually disable windows xp and that you havent been into limewire and changed any of the settings?

I use bittorrent for everything, including singles and odd songs.

Just find a torrent with it in, album, compilation etc, and just untick the songs that you dont want, easy.

Unless your completely happy with the 128kbps MP3s of which half are fake of course, if you are, keep using limewire

I agree with Bigmouth^. Limewire was good in its day just like Kazaa was but with torrents and newsgroups about its just not worth it. Far too much shit, worms and fakes on limewire now. It was good when years ago when whatever you clicked was almost always genuine.

Public torent sites rarely have this and the sites you have to register for get there uploads checked and review by people plus they are uploaded by trusted users in the first place who upload often.
