Seriously, save your pennies and put the additional money up for the gold kit, or some proper ones £800-£1,000 - I can PROMISE you, it will be the best EXTRA money you have spent, or you will kick yourself when the cheap ones adjusters sieze up / you get pissed off with the ride quality going down the pan.

The GAZ £500 still come with 2 year warentee. I have never had one seize up, either height wize- as the threads on the bodies are corse unlike the fine threads of others. The bodies are zinc plated, illiminating corrosion and the dampening adjusters are a ball bearing type, designed not to seize. The main reason to buy the GAZ Golds, is the greater range of adjustment to suit track, road and race.

Shame they still do (as do the AVOs), and if they were THAT good, why is the design of the "Gold" adjusters SO MUCH better ? Fair enough about the warranty, but I would rather buy something better quality and not have to use this...

The GOLD adjusters are mearly fitted with a larger knob. I know for you it would be exciting to be able to play with a larger knob, but most of us can do that all the time.
You get what you pay for I guess, but unless you have an unlimited budget, there are loads of other things that need to be bought too. If money was no object, it would be different...hard for you to understand eh?

It's just that I have HAD the cheap budget coil-overs as well as the expensive ones, and I can say with my hand on my heart that spending the extra to get the better ones is 100% worth it, and buying the cheap ones is a completely FALSE economy .

However, I can clearly see that it is the case of the age old adage - "you can lead a horse to water...." .

Because the adjusting ring is alloy and your screw is steel ?

Have you never had an alloy wheel sieze itself onto a metal hub as surface corrosion occurs on both?

Imagine that on a tiny screw lol, when it comes to service time you would never be able to remove it.

What we do is put a tiny plastic crush bead in under the grub screw to form a barrier between the two but still allow grip.

Most decent coilovers dont have lock rings any more. There is a reason but I wont bore you

Open or corse threaded ones are never going to be as good as a clean fine threaded one, just grab the spring platfom and move it about to see how much rattle play it has in it

As for adjustability, I think I have lost count of the number of people I have seen parked up on the M5 adjusting there settings because there is a bend coming up

Most people will play with the settings in the first week or month or so, then when they get bored of crawling about underneath they will never ever touch it again so who cares if they sieze up lol as they wont

Buy the best you can afford if you want them to work well, and continue to work well

LEDAs are no longer available, having gone bust, but a couple of the bods from the technical dept have left and started up on their own, so you can get something similar (but improved, as they now fit high speed valves after speaking to customers and finding out how they could improve upon them).

I really like my LEDAs and have had no problems with them in four years of being on the car!

col i have the track day spec rear springs and they are noticablely stiffer than the normal fronts so doesnt squat as much and gets better grip.

I now need to have a look at the handling of the car now as the back is too stiff compared to the front and it oversteers on slow bends..

Try adjusting the dampers to suit - soften the rears to the middle / lower setting and increase the fronts to a stiffer setting .

I was speaking to Alan about this and he said we could disconnect the rear anti roll bar and see how it handles and set it up from there

Not had a proper chance to mess with it yet..
