Default 18's on 3 doors

Before i start i wouldnt mind input from those people who actually have 18's on a 3 door and not people who thnk they know.

So does it fuck the car up handling wise on a road car/

Do they catch like fuck?

Do you need the ride height of a toyota hilux to fit them?

Cheers in advance gents

bruce read had em on hs 3 door and rs500.
you need to seriously attack the body kit,
they do not make the ride shit,
his was around 1 inch lower if i remember.

you notice to lorry tram lines alot more this can pull you across the road but if you could put up with that no other difference.
you need to cut the arch and kit right back on the front then have your kit glued back on and fit 35 profile tyres.

believe it or not done properly it wont look that bad,the arch is covered over by the kit and the kit just needs to be trimed and smoothen on the inside lip.

no offence but that just looks far to pimp for me, its on its fucking arse. I'd prefer to look at some differnt wheels if 17's are a better option over the 18's tbh. cause i fucking hate wheels that rub its proper chavtastic lol

i defo think you can acheive a nicer look with a 17" rim with a better offset on the back than what you normally see.

there is bound to be wheels out there that look similar to the comps too ( venoms? lol )

get summat with a nice dished rim maybe?

What i really want is a set of the 3 piece splitties that compomotive do but i would rather buy some cheaper wheels and buy a t4 and go for more power lol. I just cant fucking decide EVERY 3 door you see has compomotive mo's either in 5 spoke or 6 spoke form. I was considering hocks but i just dont know. I want something that ant the same as every other cunt thats why i thought cxt's

split rims are the way forward

agree wit the tram lining tho, but then thats the same for any 18 inch wheel i seriously found my saff improved handling wise on the road when i changed from 17's to 18's..

and i can say bruce used it just as abusive on the road
front wheel arch is a bastard to do, the lower you go the more you need to remove

I had 18's opn ym old RS500 and it drove totally fine, to behonest it felt better than with the standard wheels. Mine was running on coilovers as i couldnt get the height right with springs.

I owned the car after Jason and did convert the fronts back to Konis and then ran Ahmed springs on it and there wasnt a problem.

There had been some minor mods to the body kit to get the wheels on without rubbing.

Fronts were 17" with a 40 profile tyre, rears were 18 with a 35 profile tyre and the spare was a 17" with a non directional 40 profile so it could go on any corner.

The only problem I had with the set up while I owned the car was the Hocks were made of marzipan and running the 18s with a 35 profile tyre meant they were prone to pothole damage and I had to have one repaired by Pristine Wheels over in Woburn Sands.

And at the time the 18" tyres were dear but they've come down loads since then.

18 generally go on 3dr's without too much drama as many have such a pony offset that they sit in about 2 inches from the Arch.

18's go on fairly easily if the car isnt lowered like a pimp mobile, which IMO ruins the handling anyway.

apls, if u look at the 500 above jason/neils, u will see the height that the rear sits at on 18's, personally its almost perfect height for me, maybe a little lower, say 10-15mm, but i bet minimal kit work was needed to achieve this.

To fit mine however with my offset and tyre size i needed loads of arch work.

I reckon your usual size and offset will be fine i.e 25/35 and 18x8, tyres probably 225/35/18

Ride and handling is fine, ive had to do the mods to the arches mentioned above. Couldnt go any lower than in the pic with out it catching on bumps as the offset makes the wheels stick out more than Marks 3dr above with the gold mo's.

i've found 2 sets of 17's now a set of rl7's and a set of th's

The rl7's are 8x17 and et33

the th's are 8x17 and et28

I'm guessing these will be suitable for a 3 door

Sassy's 3 door had 18 inch comps, et35 with 225/35-18's, ride height was nice & it had no arch mods as far as i was aware, it used scuff on the rear tyres sometimes, only if being driven very hard or if the kids & a load shopping was in the back

i'll try & find a pic a bit later.

Arches all cut right back and welded up though so no chance of rubbing...

ride unaffected really.
