Ive recently had an rs turbo engine and clutch by the looks of things fitted to my mk5 escort cabriolet.

PROBLEMS : Lots of squeeling, grinding and reverse drops out.

Questions are:

Whats the problem with the gearbox?
Do i just change the clutch and hope for the best?

The clutch i think was the rsturbo one, but the gearbox is off my 1.4.... help would be greatly appreciated.

So let me get it, Your using a 1.4 gearbox on an RS turbo engine Bad Idea.
This gearbox won't be able to deal with the added pressure put on it, by tourque or BHP, Speed. Thsi is prob why it pops out of reverse, Try an source a proper gearbox as soon as posssble

 

Agreed, get a turbo box, plenty around and 2 a penny

 

Well its garaged now !! LOL.

Cant really drive it cuz its so horrible to hear the gearbox sound instead of my loverlyy rs... dumping ect... AND.. i only had it back 48 hours and ive run in to this problem... BUT, in those 48 hours, ive had a full ashley exhaust system, dump vavle, and few other bits

Now just a gearbox and cluth

 

clutch adjustment may be the problem to grinding? or maybe the gear selector/linkage ain't on properly and it's popping out of gear, low on oil?

that's the first things that pop into my head

 

Checked oil.. sorted that.. but still the horrible grinding and screaching sounds..

 

personally mate, I would get rid of The D/V, chatter sounds much better and save u lossing all that lovely boost but I don't wanna start another D/V argument

 

Get a new gearbox, one tahts up[ to the spec of the engine

When does it grind ? When selecting a gear - or just driving along ??

 

fair enuff, but all taht boost is being lost and u won't win as many street races

 

Totally standard, apart from d/v, air filter and exhaust. I need it setup tho, the d/v aint loud at all... means not much boost right?

When you ease of the accelerator, it screaches at you, and when your just driving its grinding .

 

as i saidf threee times before, get the proper Gearbox and u'll be ok Hunner about so it aint' difficult, U got ne pics of ure brief, sounds pretty good

if it's screeching is it a high pitched screaming type noise, if so the box is fooked, the bearings are gone, I did this to 4 rsturbo box's.

 

Conclusion : FUCKED.

Haha... well its booked in tuesday now, for a 1.6 gearbox and clutch

is that a std 1.6 gearbox ? or an Rsturbo gearbox ?

The strength imo opinion is no different, but a std 1.6 box won't have a LSD like the rs turbo uses.

 

Yeh i know this already... but i wont be wheels spinning.....

ATM.. it has a 1.4 gearbox, 1.6 clutch, rs engine.

Its going to have, 1.6 std gearbox and clutch put on.

 

my box did that the other week. gearbox is foooked mate!!

LOL... its sounds horrible when its screaching at you, but the grinding i can do with suprisingly enough, cuz its makes people look, and when they look, i dump past them LOL. Never had a turbo before, give me a break!
