Mk4 Golf bonnet release not working - HELP!
Got a rather annoying problem
Went to do the usual fluids check/top up on the mrs' mk4 diesel golf and much to my horror i found i couldnt get the bonnet open!
Pulling the release is moving the mechanism because it pushes the handle out in the grill which you then pull to lift the bonnet. When you pull it though jack shit happens
WTF do i do?

PassionFord Post Whore!!
Get a suitable tool and a small torch and see whats going on, it's common for the clip that clips over the pull on the grill to lift up meaning the pull lever on the grill becomes detached.

OH MY GOD
I told my mrs i was trying to find out how to fix it and she says "i'll go try it". Guess what happened? Yup it opened after a wee play with the pull lever in the grill
I'll go clean up the latch while i can get to it!

It's the typical "petrol head" scenario Cos we are all into cars and "know" a bit about them, soon as we get a problem on one, we immediately over analyse it, think it must be terminal, and go off and discuss it at great length...
The non-mechanically minded person on the other hand goes out to it, and either jiggles, thumps or kicks the problem, which typically resolves any issues
It's like when I got net problems at home - soon as it'd go down I'd go off trying to run diagnostics and tests to see whats wrong, installing this n that etc. My sister on the other hand would just unplug it and plug it in and it'd work again
