basically he needs to learn what hazards are....not necessarily what he thinks they are, but what the Driving Agency consider.

so if he sees a child near the road on the footpath, he needs to consider it a hazard as they could step into the road.

If he sees a car waiting at a junction, that's a hazard as they may pull out.

a car parked in the road is a hazard.

A cyclist is a hazard.

someone opening their car door is a hazard.

seeing a sign which says slow means there will be a hazard coming up.

approaching a school.

etc etc etc..

Ive just done my motorcycle hazard perception test. Not sure if its the same for cars. I found it better to click 2 or 3 times when you first see the hazard. On the dvd i often reacted too quickly to register 5 points which i found a bit strange personally. After a bit of practice i found that you often had to click 2 or 3 times to ensure you register a good score (4 or 5 points).

Be careful though, if you click too many times you get a no score. I did this once on my actual test as i was a bit over cautious and clicked for every little thing.

Some of them were quite hard and you had to look way into the distance to get 4 or 5.

Thats exactly what i was doing on my practice tests mate and got a no score for being too 'click happy' at first. In theory all the above is correct as there all 'potential hazards'. You have to click when the above begin to 'develop' into a hazard. Its quite tricky and i didnt agree with a few of them and the time at which they saw it as a develping hazard. Thats why i say its often better to do a few clicks as it develops. He may be doing what i did at first and clicking too soon.

thanks guys i think thats how he faild the last time to many clicks and poor score,he says the dvd is difrent than the actual test one,so he should click if he sees a hazard and click again if its going to develop in to one,

Yes thats what i did mate. I found that the dvd allowed you to click more than the actual test does without giving you a no score, which is why i got a no score on the proper test. Say if a car began to pull out, i clicked just as i seen it, then again as soon as it moved then clicked a couple more times straight after to make sure i got a good score. Seemed to work much better that way.

I reckon even people who have been driving for years would probably struggle with the new tests. Totally different in reality to watching it on a computer screen when your nervous with a sweaty hand on the mouse.

Has he got the dvd where it shows you the bar and scoring sections on the bottom?

He has to click when he see's a potential hazard & then click again if it becomes a developing hazard & again as he passes it - if he does that he should be ok

Tell him to click at warning signs too

Im sure someone from DVLA was trying to make me fail.....

I was doing the test, and one clip showed a red XR2 parked up...so I missed a hazard cos I was too busy staring at that...then 2 seconds later an S1 was parked up...missed a hazard for that too
was tryin to get the S1's regi

still passed tho

Im SURE you gotta click once when you initially see it, then click when its nearer or something or other, forgot now
