Default DiscLock

So how good are they?
Do they live up to the claims?
Mine says Thatcham approved on the front... does this mean if I inform my ins company the premium can be reduced ?

Can't be CAT1 only CAT3

The DiscLock is a superb bit of kit (if you get the genuine one) and can be made even better by welding to plates to the back. Wouldn't be without mine but would only use it as an addition to the rest of the cars security

Genuin ones are cat 3.

Oranoco where do you weld bits?

As do these live up to their claims? Well, theyr bulky and annoying to have around in a car full of mates but yes they do perform.

My car got broken into at uni. My mates always took the mic out of me for such a big steering lock and always said nobody would try and nick my car and that i was 'paranoid' fitting it. Well when I came to my car at 2am I was like, shit, I left the ignition on, then it dawned on me i couldnt leave the ignition on, lol!

Basicly they had found a spare key in my car I didnt know i had (full of junk, lol!) and it worked in the car (and would actualy start the car), and if it hadnt been for the disklock my car would have been taken. It has marks on it from where he'd obviously been trying to get it off with some tools but didnt work.

So yeh, i totaly vouch for them and would recomend anyone to get one!

You weld two semi circular piece of metal to the back side to further encase the wheel rim. One on each section

I use my everytime I park the car unless its to just nip into a shop or cash point.
Takes literally seconds to fit and remove once you get the hang of it.
One of the best visual deterants you can have!
Dont get tempted to get a nice silver one that blends in with the car, I thought the idea was to have it as bright and visible as possible

See the bar at the top, anyone think these feel awfully flimsy and wouldnt take much to bend it back? I know mines genuine as I got it from halfrauds btw...I keep meaning to have it strengthened too!

It's a genuine one. And yes, it's the silver one - still very visible though - in a black car with black interior.

My last Escort got an attempted break-in and then a few weeks after got broken into and stolen.

I don't want to to through the same crap again with this car.

Am I supposed to lock in on the loosest or tightest notch?

A little tip for everyone using a disclok!!! If you havn't already, get yourself a cheapy steering wheel cover (Halfords or other car accssy shop) & slip this over the wheel rim before fitting the lock. This will protect your expensive 3 or 4 spoke RS wheel from marking whilst fitting the Disklok!!!!

Regards
Andy

I just stuck some fabric to the inside of the disc lock to protect the wheel when it's fitted and removed

They're top bits of kit- I got mine for £20 quid of a lad I worked with.

Originally they used to quote 18mins to get them off.

I have it on good authority that time can be halved if you know what you're doing.

BUT

The reason they're such a deterent apart from the 9 - 18 mins removal time is how noisey they are to remove.

Other ways to improve them- weld a strip across the front but inside as well as this strengthens the front from attack.

Also weld over the hole where the lock is to make it more difficult to drill the lock.

ALWAYS lock it on the tightest point.

I use mine all the time superb piece of kit

I watched a program ages ago where they tested all the most popular sterring locks out. They got to 10min then stopped as they said after 5 min they would have legged it. It was voted the best out of all of them. Some took them seconds to get off and were totally pointless.

they are good as long as you weld plates on the back

if you dont it only takes 2 mins at the most too get off with an adjustable spanner

all you doo is peel it back with ease

SO MAKE SURE YOU WELD PLATES ON THE BACK

I used to ask every car thief I encountered what the best deterant was. They all said Disclock was the hardest to steal. Apparently the straight bars can actually be an advantage to a car theif as they add leverage when breaking the steering lock and can be prized off easily with a screwdriver or even bare hands

Hence, disclock is the way to gp - straight from the pikey joyriding theives mouths

I would describe them as 'customers' that I encountered through my line of work
