Escort cossie for everyday use??
Hey guys, just wondering what your views are.
Lets say you have an 80k Esc Cos, big turbo model, stage 1 so roughly 280bhp. Well looked after, all belts done, oil and filter done regularly ect etc.
If it was used everyday, say 20-30miles a day during the week, warmed up and down, only driven hard when up to temp and the usual, would it last a while before needing to be rebuilt? Or would it be better off left til weekend and doing 200miles in one sitting??
Just wondered how reliable they are or whether the Focus RS is a better choice as an everyday car............ or if that's just the same?
Also, just how "secure" are they these days? Still as desirable to theives as they ever was, or have the scoobys/Evos/Audis taken over the title now? Lets say, parked on the street at night, normal area. Disclocked up and belled up to the eyeballs. Is some scrotey fuck going to wake me up at 2am with a blade to my throat??
Any other escort cossie advice would be useful for a n00b

I would say a focus rs is a more useable car than escort mate. Security wise they are risk thats why there still expensive to insure. They shud be able to be driven everyday thats what cars are built for,if you keep on top of it servicing wise etc it shud be ok, its just up to the owner if they want to use them everyday imo, Dont matter if there belled up and disc locked dont stop them being towed away which seems to be the norm these days to get them

No real reason why it should be any less reliable than any other car of its age. But theres no way id be leaving an escos outside on the road at night, or even in the day at that!
If they dont try and nick it (which is very likely at some stage in my opinion), then it would be very vunerable to getting vandlised by some scote!
Focus RS would be my choice as it would blend in with the crowd more, and is certainly less likely to get nicked/vandlised imo.

I agree with to post avove. My cossie is used regulary to go to work and back. The escort cossie will be ok but if it was parked in a car park it would stick out like a sore thumb.

all my friends (not that were theives or the like) know nothing about cars but would recognise a great big spolier on a massive wide red car parked on the road.
even my gran would recognise one - so some nobhead will notice one easy
not trying to put you off but its alot of money to loose and hassle to get if it is vandalised/stolen

my last cossie was used every single day for 3 1/2 years in all weather etc,if your prepared to use it and keep on top of it then go for it.
I cant see any reason why it wont last

i had an Escos as my everyday car for nearly 3 years doing similar miles to you, it was stage 3 running 340bhp and i found it very reliable, although you obviously use more fuel and oil than with a regular car. i kept mine on the drive and never had any problems, but some little prick did try to have it away from my work car-park. i am a store manager at a small busy supermarket-the locks were pulled and steering column smashed up, this was all done in broad daylight-if someone wants it and they have the balls they will try and take it from anywhere. obviously they didn't get anywhere because of the immobiliser, but still caused a bit of a mess.
i booked it straight in at a bodyshop and had it de-locked, cost £400ish but was well worth doing. if you want an Escos i say go for it-i love'em and am currently looking into getting another
