Default HDTv and PS3's

I have been renting a tv now for a few years and due to how cheap tv's are these days I thinks its time I actually purchased one to own.

Ideally I'm looking for something 40" minimum, I will be using it for gaming too and would really like to be hanging it off my wall rather than have it on a stand.

Since HD has come out though I'm totally confused with what is best to have

I know there is plenty of people on here into this sort of thing so some honest opinions on whats best would be appreciated.

Also is there anywhere doing any deals on good tv's and ps3's as I will buying a ps3 as well as a tv.

All info appreciated

well i cant offer you any insight into deals out there, but i can suggest a TV.

my housemate has the sony bravia 2000 40" lcd tv

with his ps3 it looks superb, and blue ray films just look

myself i have a 32" LG lcd which is also a superb TV (half the price of the sony) but too small for you

if you watch alot of football, and are going to go to 40" screen size, i'd get one of the new toshiba plasma tv's they are ace

Dont say Sony

I've been waiting 2 months for a 46" Bravia off some bloke I met, oddly enough it was all to good to be true so now i'm looking at tv's I can afford lol

The LG Tv is plasma, is there any problems with plasma over LCD except for the electricity they use

bit of a can of worms that question.

There are pros and cons to both technologies. Have you considered rear projection lcd? The quality is as good as plasma / lcd IMO but you get a much bigger screen for a lot less money! (just that you cant put it on a wall)

A few years back I did work for a electrical wholesaler and tbh I didn't like the rear projection lcd stuff.

I need to really have a surf through some reviews, got about 1k to blow on a tv if I have to.

cheers so far guys

JonnyBravo,

If you have a grand to spend then there is a wide range of screens you can buy. IMHO I would go for a Plasma. I have Plasma, LCD and big screen projection and as an all round technology the plasma is the best imo, regardless of input type.

Others will have their own view.

You can shop around and get yourself a 42" Panasonic Viera for £1k. Awesome set for the price. Excellent clarity, excellent blacks, they seem reliable and are a nice design.

Fagin,

I don't want to spend a grand if I dont have too but I do appreciate its the right sort of money for a good tv.

40" is probably big enough, quite a bit bigger than my 26" Philips LCD

I didn't want to spend much more than £1500 on a tv/ps3 and leads and maybe cheapy cinema system.

I can probably buy the cinema system I have off the rental company as my lease is up very soon, its only £170 in the shops though so I dont want to pay much more than £50 for it being that I have spent 18 months renting this package.

Decisions decisions

I've rented for 5 years, the last contract was the first time they offered me a LCD tv.

Sadly I had to go from a 32" widescreen to a 26" LCD as I didn't want to spend anymore money.

In the 18 months I have had the tv though the prices have dropped a lot so it really isn't worth renting anymore unless they offer me a 46" Sony Bravia for £35 a month which wont happen

I dont want to spend over the odds, I just want something that works well and obviously is good for gaming and HD dvd (blu ray)
