Problem with a garage and repairs......
Ill start by saying this is nothing to do with any garage off here and not even a Ford for that matter, but the story goes like this.........
I booked my other car in for a diagnosis for a bad vibration on the rear left. They phoned me after a few hours and gave me a price of around £550 to sort the issues. I picked the car up that weekend and set off home. Once on the motorway, and up to speed, i realised that the vibrating was still there exactly the same as before. I pulled up, phoned the owner of the garage and asked to bring the car back straight away but by this time he was already on his way home. I explained that the vibrating was still there and he replied by saying that the mechanic noticed it was still there too, but said it was the wheel balancing that was out and they have no facilities to do it. Ive had the wheels balanced before this, and had them checked again after to be sure and they are fine.
They said to bring the car back down to them (another 250 mile round trip!!), and they would have another look but there will be more costs incurred if its down to something else.
Where do i stand on this? At the end of the day i paid for a diagnosis and rectify which they supposidly did, only to say it may be wheel balanacing, after they took my £550!!!
Any help on this is appreciated as im not sure what to do now or where i stand legally.
Cheers.

What were the details of the job?
Have you had the wheel checked in case it's buckled?

I assumed that a buckled wheel would have shown up when they were balanced?

Any thoughts on this?
Maybe some opinions from garage owners themselves or anyone in the trade, or anyone who has been in a similar situation?

is it a evo 6 with a knocking on the front?
i always try a second opinion if your gonna spend proper wedge
on somthing that could be simple.
this little episode happened to someone i know
car had a front knock on the suspension
went to a garage got the rack and bottom arms sugested as repairing
the problem, cost of job to rectify £450 ish.
car then goes to my mates garage where he finds a wheel not
tight, cost to fix nothing, customer very happy.
i think you want to ask someone else,if its somthing silly get it done
then ask the original garage for your cash back or somthing close

Lambchop, its a 300ZX Twin Turbo mate.
Twins, well i checked to see if the front link has been changed and that looks new, but the knocking is still there and the rear prop bearing has definatly been changed but the vibration is still there after they assured me it would be this at fault.
So all in all, im £550 out of pocket and no further forward except for a taped up boost hose.

fook me dear or what
so seriosly they charged £550 for a checkover and to replace a anti roll bar link...?
a fault like a vibration is diagnosable within an hours labour easily, as for the link half hour tops to fit, at the worst 2 hours labour for all of it plus the part, thats terrible m8
edited as missed prop rubber, still id say 3 hours max for it all

cozzfather, no mate 300zx tt. Its been to a few garages and they cant find the problem and this garage was recommended to me. They seemed 100% that the bearing would be the cause. Its not actually the point of them mis-diagnosing it that bugs me, its the fact that ive forked out all that money and the problems are still there. Surely as it was mis-diagnosed then they should sort the problem with no extra charge, or at least at cost maybe. Or am i asking too much.
bigneck, yes mate it does sound expensive but as they said it was all done and was perfect i was happy to pay them at the time.
