Default Nokia N95 thread!!!

just got a new N95...so i thought i'd ask to see if there were any known problems etc yet, that i can get fixed early!!

i had an N70 before which was pretty much faultless tbh but i remember people having all sorts of shit with them!

first impression is that the N95 is THE FUCKIN DADDY of mobile phones

i haven't tried the maps thingy yet....infact i've not done much at all with it lol (i'm waiting to transfer my number from 3 to orange so i'm still using the N70 at the mo)

the camera is amazing too...my old digital canon is now surplus to requirements

anyway if you have one then let me know of any other funky things i can do with it

ps i've already tried wifi on my modem and it works a treat

i think if you make use of all the functions it will need charging every day. dont think you can use tomtom untill they release a version compatible with s60 operating software. you can subscribe to a nokia navigation service, about 40 quid a year or 47 quid for 3 years.

i would of thought tomtom for the N80 would have worked fine ?

is the N95 series 60 v3 ?

im going to be getting one next month when im due for an upgrade but o2 want 110 quid for me to upgrade to that phone

how much do you guys think a refurbished mint condition N80 with box and everything is worth ?

hopefully i can sell my spare N80 and that will mostly pay for the N95

matt

right just found TT6 works on the N95 but you need to use an external bluetooth gps at the mo1

As TT mobile hasn't got a option to use the built in gps! gotta wait for TT to release a patch

Maps is very good and works well....as said above you can upgrade to the full satnav for around Ł40 ....you can also buy city guides for pretty much anywhere in the world too tomtom would be very good if they do work out how to use the inbuilt GPS but i'd like to see the Nokia navigation first i reckon

i found the battery is very good tbh, charged it once it was out of the box til it said 'battery full'...and it lasted a good 48 hours with plenty of messing about with it

mine didn't come with a memory card which is the only down side, although i think it's got about 150mb phone memory.

yes you can connect to a router with it, in fact i am typing this from the phone which is connected to my modem. You can also use it as a modem and connect your laptop to the internet via the phone it runs faster than my n70 and the speed isn't a problem at all, although in all honesty it's probably not as quick as more simple phones out there.

RIGHT!! my first problem!!!

the phone didn't come with a memory card, so i ordered one from ebay, it turned up and i inserted it...however nothing happened

anyway on closer inspection (and it had to be close cos these micro sd's are fookin tiny ) the card had a hairline crack in it
so i've emailed the seller and hopefully it'll be sorted smoothly.

the phone however is still the business

It doesn't come with any maps as far as I know, it downloads them as and when necessary using the 3G or GPRS connection, so you could be in for a steep bill if you move about a lot with it.

Don't know if it keeps downloaded maps as you move away from the area, or, keeps re-downloading though.

Same with the blackberry 8800 (or is that 8000 ?).

I am also in the market for a new phone, and tempted by the N95 or E65... not sure which to go for

Same here, bought a Sandisk 2Gb off eBay, and found that it was very slow for my digital camera to save pictures, much slower than the generic card I already had. Quick search on the net and hey presto, it's a fake !!!

It comes with an application called 'Maps', which when you select it, it finds your position via the built in GPS, then you can plan a route or search for various different things like restaurants etc etc. I presume it comes with a comprehensive map of the UK as standard, but you can download other countries from the Nokia website or via the handset i believe.
You have to pay to upgrade to full voice guided navigation, which is Ł47 for 3 years, Ł40 for 1 year right down to Ł4 for a week.

I haven't tried an E65, but the N95 is awesome

Quoted from http://reviews.cnet.co.uk/mobiles/0,...9288967,00.htm

"Nokia's GPS application -- which goes by the rather dull name of 'Maps' -- is very different from other portable navigators, or previous sat-nav phones from Mio and HP. Instead of storing street-level maps of the whole country, the N95 downloads local mini-maps, routes and even voice commands on the fly. Each map covers about 0.5 miles around you, so it's essential that you're on a reasonable mobile Internet tariff, and ideally an all-you-can-surf package such as T-Mobile's Web and Walk or 3's X-Series."

yep, it just planned a route to Edinburgh airport, although it did have to search online for the map, which i think it saved when i closed the application.

it gave me no indication that i was being charged for it though tbh...?? although i'll check the bill when it comes lol.

Sorry to hear that Card's probably not all that bad, but be careful, some suffer from data corruption issues, mine has been perfect, except that it's very slow...

Good luck with that, I reported my seller to eBay (who had 1000's of +ive feedback) and got nowhere.
They sent me his contact details, and repeated phone calls ended up in his/her voicemail, no response from him/her.

He's no longer on eBay though, probably changed his username and started fleecing customers again

This isn't going to fill you with confidence, but DABS which is a pretty well known company have sold fakes in the past. Probably an honest mistake on their part though.

Best thing to do (hindsight is a wonderful thing), is to go to sandisk's website and look for their list of approved retailers/resellers and order from there

apart from selling whitening kits, i also own/run an independant mobile phone shop.

N95...very much like an N80 in appearance. very good phone.

had 1 or 2 in already needing software updates (kept freezing, requiring you to remove the battery befor eit would restart)

otherwise fine (so far)

any problems i'll keep you posted.
