Default plasma vs LCD is there a big difference?

while ive managed to get on GD id thought i put a quick post up

i know its proberbly been done before and i have asked about lcd before but ive got the choice between the 2

there both samsung

plasma 42 inch model number- PS42Q7HD
LCD 32 inch model number - LE32R74BDX

i know tehers a fairly big difference between sizes but im not bothered about that

what i want to know is the differences between them, as ive heard good and bad things about plasmas and never really looked into them as i heard they have to be serviced every 3 years or something

its just going to have a dvd player and xbox 360 on it aswell

anyone shed some light please and what would be the best to go for

thanks

I heard something similar about the servicing from a mate, and also that if the colour/brightness etc are turned up a bit too high, can bugger the actual screen by burning it?

Maybe just a rumour though. He says he definitely prefers his LCD one

If your going to be playing a lot of games then I would go for the LCD over the plasma. Plasma burn in (even though its not relly burn in) is on average about at the same level of CRT about 20 years ago, games could easily burn in then when the brightness was set very high. Some manufactures are better than others. They don't need to be serviced every 3 years.

The LCD of courses doesn't have as fast a reponse time so games could look a little blury.

Each of the technologies is getting better all the time and fixing most of these issues, but if your a TV numpty that just wants to plug your xbox in and watch some dvds then the LCD would probably be best.

Personally I prefer plasma but they can easily lead into a situation where fear of burn in ends up dictating what you watch, which kind of goes against the whole point of a TV .

The easiest way to think of them is

Plasma = cossie, great performance but only if you look after it properly fear the worst if you don't.
LCD = diesel astramax van, typicaly treated like crap but somehow always within inches of your bumper not matter what speed you blast down the outside of the motorway.

LCD 32 inch model number - LE32R74BDX

Excellent tv I have one at the end of my bed! Looks awesome when playing on the Xbox 360.

Reading reviews before I bought it, they said that the sound quality was 3 out of 5, which is the only thing that let the tv down, (picture and connections were 5 out of 5 and 4 out of 5 respectively.) However I had no trouble with the sound either so well impressed.

Cant comment on the other TV though as I had no experience with it.

Hope this helps a bit!

For large 42" or bigger go Plasma...!

If you fancy a cheap high quality 720p/1080i (1366x768) 6.5ms 32" LCD then have a look at this, comes with 3 years manufactures warranty :

http://www.mirai.eu/Europe/ProductDe...d=46&cat_id=43

Can be purchased for Ł390 from:

http://www.techfever.co.uk/products.asp?partno=6438

Just brought one for my boy - played around with it last night and it looks good for the money - it even seemed to do 1 to 1 pixel mapping with my laptop plugged in!

New plasmas do NOT suffer from image retention or burn and can be used safely for excessive gaming and will easily last 10 years !!

lcd's are getting better but do not still match plasmas for quality of picture

value for money its gotta be plasma

well with the both of them i can get 3 years warranty anyhow

im sort of leaning towards the plasma, just from how good the picture quality is

im stuck on these 2 samsungs to be honest

i like samsungs as they have an extra gaming mode just for games lol

but bothe seem very good

whats does it mean by contrast ratio as lcd is 7000-1 and plasma 10000-1

My pioneer 427XD does have retention, had it since XMAS and I can see the sky pause and circle in the bottom left hand of my screen against bright backgrounds, and no, we don't pause for hours on end... .

It can be cleared up easily by switching to analogue aerial input without a lead connected, you get the white ants on screen, leave that on for a few hours and it will clear up any retained images.

So the answer is that they do, but can be remedied easily, which wasn't the case in the past.

Just reminds me that I need to check picture settings, it may set a little too bright and contrasty, hence the retention.

It means that plasma is better able to show detailed dark parts of the image, someone's black hair for example would look like a mass of black on lcd, whereas on plasma you'd be able to see more detail.
Similarly, in a dark scene (rooms in the blade movie for example), you can see more detail with plasma than you would with LCD.

No reason why not, has HDMI port, component connections for xbox360, PS3 etc, does 720P/1080I and with 6.5ms it should be more than up to the job
