leave it to idle for a few minutes & the oil pressure drops off to around 1 bar
![Confused](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_confused.gif)
engine has only done 800 miles, the guy who done the crank is spot on so i don't see clearances being a problem, hoping its a lazy pump of airleak, got a new pump, pickup pipe & gasket, hopefully that should sort it.
oh well, something to do the weekend

Or an innacurate guage ?
The minimum specified is 1.8 bar at 850 rpm, with 20/50 oil at 80 degrees c, 2.4 bar at 2000rpm.
So log as it picks up as it does I would not worry unduly, ford set these figures on a brand new everything, and there is so little load at idle. tabetha

My car idles there but only when really hot and the fans are on, it usually sits about 20 psi on idle when hot but it goes up to 55 psi when driving on a motorway, me in my mental mind thought something was up but my engine hasnt changed a bit since it got rebuilt about 5k ago, let me no what you do and if its a weak oil pump as might need to do mine too

i'll pop down Power Engineering & change the oil for some mobile 1 but knowing my luck with this car it will be more involved than that

thing is, if the lifters are tapping (which i did hear it doing when i saw ya last), thats gotta mean there isnt enough pressure top end.
i would PERSONALLY just change the pump before you take out the bottom end again.
least you know if that would be the problem or not.

i'd have to agree with above, the chances are that if you have sysmptoms of poor pressure such as noisy followers then there is a problem that needs fixing
i'd have a look at the pump i reckon

mate, if that gauge is reading true, then you havea fault, it wont just be iffy oil.
dont drive it and get it checked over.
1st symptom of my 24v engine letting go was funky oil pressure at idle. it lasted less than 100miles after that

You need to check your oil pump is flush with the block this sounds like there is a gap and is pulling in air, I have seen this a few times when people assemble there engines and not check,
The other is a leak from the oil pick up gasket did you put the o ring on the spray bar if it is a big turbo this is not used as the gasket seals it, if small turbo check the oil pick up pipe gasket for leaks and that the bolts arent bottoming out on the pump causing the gasket not to seel.
Mark

Mark, i checked that when it went back together, i've seen one before with that problem where someone tightened 1 bolt all the way the tightened the second bolt causing the pump to sit crooked
i have a new pump now so i'll fit that the weekend with a new pickup pipe & gasket etc....
thanks everyone

Is it possible that the oil pick up pipe could be particially blocked ? has the engine been rebuilt at some point and some sealent got into the oil and blocked the strainer / pick up pipe ?

so will the engine be ok now once the pump problem is rectified or will there have been a bit of wear due to this low oil pressure thats guz has experianced at idle?
