Default FAO People running on USED cooking oil

Been running my 1.8d escort on NEW veggie oil for some time now with no problems

Just found an unlimited supply of USED veggie oil and collected my 120 ltrs today Whats the best way of filtering it as i have ran it through a strainer a few time to remove the crumbs and chips

how clean does it really have to be and what is every one using to clean it???

cheers for any help

Bri.

i got a few drums from my next door neighbour who owns a chinese
takeaway, got the white spirit in left it a day or so,and then tried filtering
it through the mrs's stockings,it was a fcukin nightmare going allover
the place, there was loads of bits in it.
i just happen to know a couple of people who are diesel specialists
and the stories they tell of cars and vans fcuked on used chip oil.
so i gave up and used red (joke)

im a biodiesel engine test engineer and i strongly suggest you go 50 50 with diesel

will save the pump etc and wont clog your filters

as for filtering i wouldnt know (use proper bio here)

but i know all the inns and outs of HMRC and if you get caught its soap on a rope time

you need to pay the duty before you use it

otherwise if you get caught how are they gonna now you have been using it for 3 days or 3 years

use the filter used oil as the boiling and cooking process actually replicates the transesterifcation (sp? ) process that is used in making bioidesel

more info here:

www.hmrc.gov.uk

i might be wrong but im pretty sure you declare it before hand

from hmrc

Can I use vegetable oil in my car if I mix it with normal diesel?

You can use vegetable oil in your car and mix it with diesel (vegetable oil is generally used as a substitute for diesel) but you will have to make arrangements to pay the excise duty to HMRC. See question 'How do I notify Revenue & Customs that I am using cooking oil in my vehicle?'.

Important Note: It is illegal to run your car on any fuel substitute without having first paid us the duty.

money grabbing bastards.

If the road tas is paid, then the car is allowed to be driven on the road surely, no matter what goes into the fuel tank...

Will the government refund the tax money i spend on petrol that i put into my mower or petrol remote controlled car? Course they bloody wont, so how can they justify extra taxing on a sustainable fuel.

I suppose they'll be putting an 80% tax on water for hydrogen cars next

i work for lucas (now delphi) so you can understand my cautions with bio

but people i have spoken to at bosch are also equaly cautious

the road tax has nothing to do with it

any car used on the road must use duty paid fuel

if you wanted to you could claim back any road duty on any fuel bought at the pump if you prove you didnt use it on the road (listen up track day warriors )

How could you do that, and what are the chances of getting a refund?
