Default Detonation issue....

Hi guys,

Few who know me know that I have been experiencing some detonation issues. It has been driving me crazy! I wanted to just ask people if they had any ideas...

We know that the car for some reason is basically over advancing the timing on boost - (ie it provides about 12 degrees of advance when it should be closer to 4 to 5 degrees!).

Other than the chip itself (which Stu is helping me with) is there anything else that people can think of that may cause this?

Off boost running is okay, but fuelling is all to rat shit - tends to run too lean at times when only light throttle.

Engine was recently rebuilt, and crank wheel found to be in good condition with no play.

All thoughts gratefully considered!

No - map was tested, and appears to be functional. Also, the RP labs software is registering much boost - which implies that it is okay I guess.

voltage issues IMO...either engine loom/car loom or fuel pump wiring, or a mix of all 3???

Fuelling is correct when on boost (which is the main issue)

Group A Fuel Pump
New fuel pump wiring and relay
New ECU Loom complete
New ECU - (not chip though)
New Alternator
New Battery
NEw Alternator to batter wiring

Remember that the issue seems to relate to ignition, not fuel. THE AFR when on full boost (and when detting) is close to 11.

Hi Guys

The air temp sensor is new (bought from MSD a while ago). The Chip is still suspect - Stu is doing his bit to help me there, as I havent been able to try any other chip with L8 and this setup (thanks Stu, and hurry home from Germany! )

The Crank sensor is an interesting one - the sensor has been off and on since experiencing the problem, but I decided that the sensor prob wasnt at fault given that the car basically runs. I have a new one I bought years ago somewhere - maybe I should chuck it on....

I still strongly suspect that the chip may be faulty, but I thought I would make sure that everything else that could possibly cause it was checked before I go back to Stu again.
