Default Race bearings for Zetec Engines - where from?

What race bearings have people been using on their Zetec Turbos and where did they get them from?

Give RC Delvelopments a call, one of the lads there has a big spec Zetec turbo, he might know.

Hope this helps.

Austin W got a set from the states in his resto thread, not sure who from though. Have you had a look on focaljet or focus fanatics?

For anything upto what the standard crank can take (500bhp or so if rumours are true) I find it hard to beleive the standard bearings arent adequete
Thats NOT me giving an answer, i know little about the zetec really, its more of a question.

What bearing failures have you heard of?

Doesnt actually sound any different to a normal steel backed bearing to me

The crank should have oil between it and the bearing anyway dont forget, the two should never actually touch in the first place.

Im not a fan of really hard bearings, as any tiny bit of swarf that gets into them ends up emebedded in the crank instead of the bearing potentially.

Nice soft bearing that can accept a little bit of shit, and a good supply of oil to keep it and the crank apart are the key to a good engine based on my limited experience of that subjet TBH.

Wear resistance is pretty irrelevant on a high power engine IMHO cause its never been a bearing wearing out that has required a stripdown ever on any high performance engine ive ever seen, they ALWAYS outlast the ringseal on a big power motor unless you have had an oil problem.

As per chip- id be shocked to find bearings lasting less time than other parts IF the oil system was up to scratch.

And if tis not, fix that, not the bearings.

500bhp, 186mph (178.8mph proven @ Brunters), various events and plenty of engine raping....std bearings were fine.

I hope that answers your question.
