Default For those with preteen kids who use internet....

My 10yr old son has been using the internet a bit now, only goes on specific sites, IE his school login site, his tamigotchi site, searches images on google etc...

Does anyone, or more to the point, can anyone recommend some "parental control" internet software, that restricts sites/chat rooms

I want to be able to give him the opportunity to use my laptop whenever I am not...

Thanks in advance

You can set up permissions in IE to block out certain words and phrases or websites, not 100% sure how to do it, but:

Tools > Internet Options > Content

and its in there

Print pictures off the net...put them in a shoebox, and write ''google'' on the lid. Whenever he wants to find pictures on google...he just has to put his hand in the box.

Not much help?

now Stu as you know I'm not a parent but... I would say educate your son about the pitfalls of the internet and what he can and cant do..

You know as well as I do you can check everything he looks at.. so tell him... you will check and if he screws up you will remove all internet rites untill he grows up.

I'd like to think my kids (when I have them) would be able to tell right from wrong just like most of us do... and I have done.

Anyway- thats my 2penth

couldn't agree more give him some responsibility and if he screws up then strike down with great vengeance and furious anger

the chances of him finding www.stulikestoblowhorses.com is pretty miniscule anyway

Im not a parent but I think the "let him look at anything he wants but record it all" approach is best, as then if he does spend time looking at someting grotty you can sit down and discuss with him why that isnt acceptable and explain that if he wants to use the laptop he has to do so inline with some rules you lay down.

Ultimtaely these days with kids in his class having older brothers who have a phone full of animal porn etc though, there is no way you can shade him from seeing the sort of crap that people my age never had to as a kid, so if you can except that and educate him to deal with it I reckon its better.

Im sure thats all a lot easier said than done though, and like I said, im not a parent anyway, so easy for me to give advice i dont need to follow, lol

Last time I went on a firewall/network security training course for work, the instructor told me about K9 which he said was excellent and FREE.

You can also use spyanytime , that will record all passwords and take sreen shots of websites visited, the program runs hidden and is password protected.
