Got pulled over this afternoon, was on my way to the mot, and got caught with no tax insurance or mot (ive just finished building the damn thing) yes i know im bad, i thought i would be ok for the 1/2mile travel
I was given a £200 fine for the lack orf insurance, but they didnt say anything about points.. any-one know the sort of punishment on that side of things?
Will i get points/ban/test re-take.
Ive already got 6points if thats any difference?

Also.. i thought if you were driving to a pre-booked MOT test then you could drive without an MOT?

Yep, they werent worried about the mot, as it was booked, just the insurance, and they are reporting me to the dvla about the tax

Its not just 6 points.

Driving without insurance is an IN10 and stays on your licence longer than the normal speeding conviction.

Its also seriously frowned upon by insurance companies.

And yes- driving without insurance is 6pts.

But if you're sending off your licence for no insurance it will more than likely come back with an IN10...

Is it any wonder so many people drive round uninsured nowadays?? thats peanuts compared to a years premium, and the likelyhood of getting caught once every year is very low. much cheaper to drive uninsured and risk having to pay a measly 200 notes than fork out a years premium every year eh?? the wonderful british justice system at its finest

If you have to send it off to the local court.. which you are- you'll have their number to pay by card so ring em and ask em what you'll get.

Also- on your fixed penalty form it will say the offence code.

That will tell you what you are being done for and you can look up the points for it.

I told them that..so did my old man (an mot tester), and he said the legal way to do it, would be to get it recovered there, we both told him that he was wrong

the fixed penalty i aint got a clue what thats for as you must have admitted to something to recive it

oh and the old bill dont issue a dvla fine, they report you and dvla issue the fine 3 months later ( i discovered )

LC sounds like the wrong code- but is a lesser penalty.

Notice- IN10 above it- as I said earlier.

Seems I was wrong about the length time but as I have quite a few friends with IN10's I know for a fact its a biggy in the endorsements side of things on your insurance quotes.

you dont get a fixed penalty of £200 for no insurance,not on this side of the border anyway.driving without insurance is a read you your rights charge and a later court appearance usually with a minimum of 6-10 points and a couple of hundred quid fine and as you have 6 already id say your licence is looking a little bit at risk.no insurance points stay on your licence for 4 years but the points stop counting after 3 for totting up and you have to declare it your insurance company for 5 years but i cant remember if its from the date of offence or date of conviction. no insurance is one of the most frowned upon offences by the insurance company so expect a large premium hike when your convicted. i was told insurance tends to go up 15% for every 3 points you get and another 25% if you get banned but that was for 4 lesser sp30 offences.the police know exactly when your insurance ran out and who it was with as all the info is now on their database when they do a check.some of your story confuses me though,it seems a bit muddled unfortunately ive learned all this the hard way as well when i was young and silly so i wont preach about right and wrong to you

6 - 8 pts for no insurance, and 12 pts doesn't automatically mean a ban. Plead exceptional hardship and may get to keep licence. 7yrs ago I had 8pts and went to court for no insurance, pleaded hardship and walked out with 14pts and still had my licence. Not proud of it, but we all do stupid things when we're younger.

Spoke to the local plod this morning, while getting my car back, and they said its 6points, and will go to court where i already have 6 on my licence.
Looks like im going to have to beg the judge

I was actually insured in my own mind, (insured to drive anyones car, I was driving a car co-owned by me and a mate at the time) but the copper hated me and went out his way to get me, as I was making him look silly in court over a speeding offence he lied about #


Insurance will be fucking expensive for the next 5 years , they really hammer you for it, bit of double jeapordy .

To get away with the exceptional hardship plea, you will have to prove other people will suffer as a result of you loosing your licence, the beak won't care if you loose your job/house life etc

insurance aint that bad to be fair mate

i had 9 points on my licence for speeding and driving with no insurance and its a 50% increase on the policy but then after the first year it made a 50 quid difference and now ive got a clean licence im paying the same i did last year

besides its happened mate, cant do fuck all now but you DO have to appeal the siezing of your car mate as thats the fine you have got and you are going to a PRE BOOKED MOT, aslong as its pre booked its legal mate, they are playing you im afraid

but no insurance your fucked mate and expect a 3 month ban for totting up, its anoying but its life

the WORST thing ive found is driving with no licence is no more frowned upon than speeding but a red light camera will affect your insurance for the first offence

they can sieze and crush a car for no insurance, or/and for no tax,and they will charge you about £12 a day storage as well, as well as the recovery operators fee, which is usually £150, PLUS the fine and you will have to supply proof of insurance before they let you have the car back trust me on this one, my dad works for the AA as a liasion between the piggys and the recovery firms

im sure this has been said before... but isnt there a clause that provided you can prove you were traveling to the MOT test centre and your car was Booked in, then you dont need tax or insurance?

i.e. you need an MOT before you can get tax and before you can get valid insurance!??

im sure i have heard that before...
