Its gone kind of off topic - I agree with the comment that it should have been agreed before it was purchased.
I can see why your friend does not want to pay - and why it would save to continue where it is. Maybe you could try trading standards etc depending on what the invoice says etc.

Personally I would be back to the original mapper and have him fix it under the warranty you mentioned.

Dumped, if the mapper has mapped an engine someone else has spec'd and gotten 'the best' from that setup, he's done his job?

If the mapper wants his precious map that much, why dont you just offer to sell the chips back to him for what you paid for them, as they obivously are of more value to him than they are to your mate

I didnt say he had not done his job Bill - the fact is the guy wants access to his map to develop it - original mapper is v happy with results and not looking to do more. The customer now wants to develop it further. To do this it would be much cheaper for them to continue on a map that already runs the car etc instead of paying the time for a new mapper to start from the beginning again.

The problem is old mapper wont give access - and by the sound of this it was not agreed before the job was done. I can see both sides but as Euan is asking from the friends side I would say look through the invoice etc and see if you can take it further - I believe it to be a grey area and doubt V much he will get anywhere and would be better off trying convincing the old mapper its in both their interests.

I think Marks attitude is spot on to developement and customer service.

I can see where you're coming from Martin (or is it with a y, apologies if so) and as a fellow petrol head, obviously want Euan's mate to be happy with his car. Hindsights a wonderful thing, but no help to the poor chap now .I do feel for his predicament, but can also see where the mapper is coming from.

Possibly an empasse, the guy didn't make clear he'd want further work done elsewhere (and thus access to the maps) but the mapper may not have been clear up front about his policy regarding his mapping work (and locking the maps), which may help Euan's friend's argument?

I hope some middle ground can be found.

if the map doesnt work for that spec of engine, why would the mapper want it protected?why copy a map that doesnt work? i would ask for a refund or rebate on the chip and sell it back to the mapper, then start again.

Bill...

believe it or not thre of the biggest tuners for this very popular car came up with this engine betwen them but when asked for comp ratio not one could tell us...

their honest answer was they didnt know

I would nt be dealing with such people but its toolate for my friend now
